“I bring the full endorsement of the government of Seychelles as we embark on this crucial symposium on person-centered care.  I also bring back to the fore the tenacity with which Ministers after Ministers of Health have been imploring you the devoted health care professionals, to improve the quality of your care,  to show even more compassion, to improve the dated appointment system and to cut short the perceived long waiting lists. These are all core actions if we really want to model our care on the person. 

“It is indeed a pleasure, to be a part of this very important Symposium, on person-centred care. This is a concept that is well-integrated into WHOs thinking and approach to attainment of the global health goals.

As we are all aware, the global health agenda has coalesced around the need to assure sustained Universal Health Coverage with services that are important to them. This agenda is built around the need to ensure our people have the right to health, and are healthy enough to contribute to their personal, community and national development.

Brazzaville 20 July, 2016 - His Excellency Mr. Assane Ngueadoum, Chadian Minister of Health and Chairperson of the 65th session of the Regional Committee for Africa, made an official one-day visit to the WHO Regional Office for Africa accompanied by Her Excellency Kalzeube Neldikingar, Ambassador of Chad to Congo Brazzaville.

Seychelles has placed the improvement in the quality of services its population receives as one of the key policy thrusts that will consolidate the achievements of Universal Health Coverage that it has so far attained. To this end, an increased focus on person centred care is one of the strategic thrusts the country is pursuing to facilitate achievement of this goal. Person centred care calls for a complete rethink of the way health and related services are designed, provided and monitored.

Lilongwe: On 21 July 2016 the Ministry of Health in collaboration with USAID Malawi, the World Health Organization and partners launched the national Health Communication Strategy and the Malaria Communication Strategy at the Sunbird Hotel in Lilongwe. At the colorful occasion the Guest of Honour was the Minister of Health, Dr Peter Kumpalume, MP. Among the distinguished guests were the WHO Representative, Dr Eugene Appiah Nyarko, the Chief of Health Services, Dr Charles Mwansambo and the Director for Health at USAID Mr Peter Halpert.

Dr. Delanyo Dovlo, the Director for Health Systems and Services at the WHO Regional Office for Africa, arrived in Seychelles in the middle of the week and, immediately after, he held three meetings with us.  First he met with the Minister of Health, then he met with the technical and management team of the Ministry and subsequently, with the management team of the Health Care Agency.

Lilongwe: On 19 July 2016 the WHO Representative for Malawi Dr Eugene Appiah Nyarko, handed over cervical cancer and safe motherhood equipment worth over 44 million (USD62000) Malawi Kwacha to the Ministry of Health. The guest of Honor for the ceremony that took place at Ministry of Health headquarters conference room in Lilongwe was the Chief of Health Service s, Dr Charles Mwansambo. Present at the auspicious occasion were the Ministry of Health Directors, Programme Managers and the media.

19 July 2016 - The World Health Organization (WHO) donated motorcycles and laptop computers to six districts   to improve maternal, child health and nutrition. The districts are Iganga, Luuka, Namutumba in Eastern Uganda and Hoima, Masindi and Kibaale in Western Uganda.

Nairobi, 18 July 2016 – As the impact of the recent fighting in South Sudan continues, more families are being driven out of their homes in search of safety every day. Over 100 000 people have been displaced since a new round of intense fighting erupted in late June 2016 in South Sudan. The latest fighting has affected even the Equatoria regions further south of Juba, a hitherto peaceful part of the country.
