Abuja, 09 March 2018 - The Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has inaugurated polio committee with new members. 

Gaborone, Botswana - 09 March 2018: As a key part of the Transformation Agenda of the WHO Regional Office for Africa, country offices are being assessed in relation to their ability to provide the type, quality and level of support in line with the needs and priorities of host countries. Botswana is among the current wave of countries to benefit from the review. A four member multi-disciplinary team has been in Botswana to carry out the review.

Maiduguri, 7 March 2018 - Malam Mohammed was desperate. His wife, Hannatu was in labour with their first child, but the nearest health facility was located 10 kilometres away and the only way to get there was on foot through rough terrain. The father to be lives in Pela Olla community, which is in a remote corner of Borno state in Nigeria. 
Running out of options, Hannatu was steeling herself to deliver her baby without professional help.

Dar es Salaam, 6-8 March 2018: Effective coordination enhances timely responses to Public Health Events (PHEs) and plays a critical role in reducing morbidity and mortality. Moreover, it reduces duplication and competition, and allows different agencies and organizations to complement each other.

WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Moeti Matshidiso was awarded the Honorary Fellowship of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine the highest honour that is bestowed by the school to an individual. Dr Moeti’s citation was read by Prof Rosanna Peeling amidst cheers from the graduating students. Dr Moeti received the honor with her usual grace and dedicated it to all the staff of WHOAFRO at the Regional Office and 47 country offices.

Abuja, 5 March, 2018 - The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommitted to eradicating polio, promoting health through the life course, combating communicable and non-communicable diseases, and supporting universal health coverage through government's primary healthcare revitalization agenda over the next biennium (2018-2019).

Kampala, 5 March 2018:- The World Health Organization (WHO) has convened a three-day After Action Review (AAR) meeting to evaluate Uganda's preparedness in responding to public health emergencies after the recent Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) outbreak in Kapchorwa and Kween districts. During the meeting, public health experts will examine the detection and response framework for public health hazards right from the National Task Force (NTF), the incident command management system, the various technical sub-committees and their linkages to district structures.
