FREETOWN, 13 February 2018 --- Senior global officials from the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) Secretariat, WHO and the United Nations Development Programme have joined Sierra Leone's Ministry of Health and Sanitation in calling for accelerated action to reduce tobacco consumption in the country. The call was made at a major national meeting of stakeholders in the capital, Freetown today.

Uyo, 11 February 2018 - The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Idom Emmanuel has pledged to continue placing health on the highest pedestal to alleviate the burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases in the state. 
In a meeting with Dr Wondimagegnehu Alemu, the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Representative (WR) to Nigeria, the Governor noted that WHO has expended substantial human and material  resources to “keep the citizenry healthy” across Nigeria.

Juba, South Sudan, 7 February 2018 – South Sudan declared the end of its longest and largest cholera outbreak on Wednesday 7 February 2018, with no new cases of cholera reported in over seven weeks.

The fight against cholera in South Sudan has involved a range of partners working together to enhance surveillance, deploy rapid response teams to investigate and respond to cases, provide clean water, promote good hygiene practices and treat cholera patients.

For the first time ever, the trio of Aishatu, 5, her siblings Musa, 3 and Umar, 1 received vaccinations against measles, polio and yellow fever at a transit point on the outskirts of Banki town in Borno state. A World Health Organization (WHO) Special Intervention Team of community health workers caught up with Aishatu’s family on their way from Banki in Borno state to the Chad Republic.
