BANJUL 26 NOVEMBER 2018: The Gambia joined the international community in observing World Diabetes Day (WDD), 14 November 2018. The Day was observed in two separate events.
The Gambia joined the International Community in observing World Diabetes Day, commemorated on 14 November every year. The activity was organized by the Gambia Diabetes Association (GDA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoH&SW) and the WHO Country Office (WHO), hosted by the Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) Headquarters in Kanifing.
The national multi-sectoral platform for tobacco control is not resting on its laurels since enactment and official launch of Gambia’s first ever comprehensive Tobacco Control Act 2016. It has just launched an aggressive nationwide stakeholder sensitization and engagement to smoothen the way to implementation. Funds for this activity have been mobilized through a local NGO, which is an active member of the multi-sectoral platform.
The Gambia observed World Mental Health Day 2017 through a series of commentary activities aimed at mobilizing support and action for healthier work places.
The WHO Representative to the Gambia, Dr. Desta A. Tiruneh, presented his Letter of Credence to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon A.N.M. Ousainou Darboe, at his offices in Banjul, this afternoon.
As part of preparations in the formulation of the Programme Budget for the next biennium, officials from the WHO Country Office and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare have participated in a one-day meeting to review the Plan of Action for 2018-219.
