WHO/TDR Proposal Development Workshop opens in Banjul

BANJUL, 04 October 2010 -- A four-day Research Capacity Strengthening proposal and protocol development workshop organised jointly by WHO/AFRO, WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Disease (TDR) and in collaboration with the WHO Country Office (WCO) and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MOH&SW) opens in Banjul today.

WHO and MoH Launch Advocacy Campaign for Reproductive Health Services

BANJUL, 10 August 2010: The World Health Organization Country Office (WCO) and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW) in collaboration with the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) have embarked on a nationwide advocacy campaign for reproductive health.

The first leg of this exercise, targeting the Technical Advisory Committees (TACs) at the Regional Governors Offices throughout the country, kicked off on Wednesday, 4th August 2010.

 

Gambia observes World Diabetes Day

Banjul: 29 November 2010: World Diabetes Day (WDD) was officially launched on 14 November 2010 by the Chief Medical Director of the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital, Dr Mamadi Cham, on behalf of the Honorable Minister of Health and Social Welfare.

Banjul, 17 January 2012 -- “We in the education sector believe that the learner needs to be given room for self-exploration and application of what is learnt rather than being a passive recipient. This is exactly what the WHO Health Academy Project is trying to achieve”. These were the words of the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Baboucarr Bouy, at a recent ceremony marking the end of a countrywide inter-secondary school competition on the WHO Health Academy Project (HAP).

Mass immunization campaign against measles kicks off

 

Banjul, 12 December 2011 -- The Honourable Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Fatim Badjie, this morning launched the national measles vaccination campaign at the Kanifing Municipal Council Headquarters. An estimated 310735 children between 9 and 59 months are targeted for this exercise. Vitamin A supplementation for the 6 - 59 months old, representing a target population of 329014 children, will also be carried out simultaneously during the one week exercise which ends on Sunday, 18th of December 2011.
