Abuja, June 25 2019 - “My daughter Aisha Ahmed, who is 5 years old had to undergo several surgeries at the Noma Children Hospital Sokoto to correct the defect on her face last year, says her mother, Hanatu Ahmed mentioned a resident of Sokoto, in North west geo-political zone of Nigeria

“It started with a small swelling on her right cheek which busted, and progressively increased in size until it covered a large part of her face.”  

Abuja, 24 June 2019 –The first Regional Value for Money’ (VfM) Training of Trainers (ToT) is underway in Abuja. 

The 5-day workshop (24- 28 June 2019), which registered over 80 participants, drawn from 44 African countries is based on critical aspects of reforms in line with the World Health Organization’s Africa Regional Office (WHO-AFRO) Transformation agenda – a vision and a strategy for change, aimed at facilitating the emergence of a WHO that staff and stakeholders want.

Yola, 19 June 2019 - With the notification of newly confirmed cases  from Yola North, Yola South and Girei local government areas (LGAs), the Adamawa State Ministry of Health has declared on 18 June 2019 an outbreak of cholera. As of 17 June 2019, a total of 76 cases have been reported, including one death from three LGAs Yola North (44 cases including 1 death), Yola South (1 case) and Girei (31 cases). 

Lagos, 20 June 2019 - The Deputy Governor of Lagos state, His Excellency Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat assures that “All hands are on deck to end polio in Lagos soon”.

During a courtesy visit by a team of health development partners, led by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA)  in his office on 18 June 2019, the Deputy Governor assured that the state will leave no stone unturned until it stops  the current circulation of polio virus on the state.

Maiduguri, 6 June, 2019 - Fatma Bukar is a registered nurse/midwife with the Umaru Shehu Ultra-Modern Hospital in Maiduguri. In 2016, without a specialized training in pediatric nutrition including management of Severe Acute Malnutrition with medical complications, Fatma was deployed as the Officer-in-Charge of the WHO-supported Stabilization Centre at the hospital. 

Abuja 31 May 2019 – The World Health Organization (WHO) welcomes the announcement from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) of the end of the emergency phase of the 2019 Lassa fever outbreak following a joint epidemiological review by the NCDC,  WHO and partners. WHO however calls on all partners to remain vigilant to better protect all Nigerians against the disease.

Abuja, 31 May 2019- As Nigeria joins the world to commemorate the 2019 World No Tobacco Day with the theme, “Tobacco and Lung Health: don’t let Tobacco take your breath away”, the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) today announced the recent passage of the 2018 National Tobacco Regulations by the National Assembly. The passage of the regulations will ensure effective implementation of the 2015 National Tobacco Control Act.
