Accra, 03 March 2010 -- The Government of Ghana on Tuesday launched this year’s National immunization Days against Polio at a grand ceremony in Accra attended by the First Lady of Ghana, Mrs Ernestina Naadu Mills, queen mothers and other opinion leaders, parents, representatives of development partners, politicians, health workers and volunteers.

Kumasi, Ghana, 24 october 2010 -- The 2010 measles supplemental immunization activities (SIA) in Ghana received a major boost last friday when a 28-member team from the UN Foundation led by the President of the Board of Directors, Mr. Ted Turner, joined health teams in two sub-districts in Kumasi capital city of the Ashanti region in preparatory activities towards the campaign scheduled from 3-6 November. The Jubilee Park in the twin cities of Sekondi-Takoradi, the capital of the Western Region in Ghana was the scene of a very colourful 2010 World AIDS Day Celebration. The well organized function, honorably graced by His Excellency Mr John Dramani Mahama, the Vice President of Ghana, was attended by people from all walks of life ranging from school children, civil society organizations, persons living with HIV (PLHIV), chiefs and traditional rulers to Development partners.

Ghana, 24 march 2011 -- Every year, March 24, the birthday of Dr Robert Koch who discovered the germ that causes Tuberculosis, is celebrated as World TB Day. This year in Ghana was no exception with all roads leading to the Jubilee Park, Sunyani the capital of the Brong Ahafo Region for the national launch of the World TB Day (WTB) 2011. The theme was "On the move against TB; Transforming the fight towards elimination".

On 26 April, 2012 Ghana made history as the first African country to simultaneously introduce pneumococcal and rotavirus vaccines into its national immunization programme in a bid to fight pneumonia and diarrheoal diseases, each of which ac-counts for approximately 10 per cent of under-five deaths in the country.

Female Functional Literacy and Inter Sectoral Action In furtherance of its objective of supporting the vulnerable rural poor communities to improve their health status and livelihoods, WHO supported the Department of Community Development in November to organize a joint programme for the commissioning of a corn-mill and a two-day health workshop for women leaders in the Hodzo cluster of villages in the Volta region.

24 May 2002-- An electronic media campaign on Home Based Care for Malaria has been launched in Accra. The national campaign dubbed "He-Ha-Ho" which stands for Healthy Happier Homes is aimed at equipping mothers and care givers with basic skills and knowledge to correctly and promptly manage children less than five years of age with malaria at home. Additionally, the campaign aims at ensuring that chemists provide accurate information and dosage to their clients.

In July 2001, the Countryside Children's Home at Bawjiase in the Central Region of Ghana had 73 children most of them below the age of 10. For their sources of food, the Home had a little garden of vegetables, an acre of food crop farm, a chicken coop with a dozen of chickens, less than 10 goats and sheep in an open pen; and had to rely on handouts from benevolent individuals and organizations.

Tamalé, 9 October, 2012 -- About 2,999,293 Ghanaians aged between one and twenty-nine years including pregnant women and lactating mothers within the age brackets are to be immunized from 9-18 October, 2012 against Meningococcal type “A” also known as Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) in a vast campaign involving the three northern regions of Ghana which include Northern region, Upper East and Upper West. The vaccination is free of charge to the public and will take the form of an injection.

Accra, 22 April 2015 - Keeping vigilant against Ebola, Ghana Health Services (GHS), Vodafone Ghana Foundation and Vantage Medical Solutions (VMS) with support from World Health Organization (WHO) officially launched the first ‘health worker-to-health worker’ call service on Ebola in Ghana and Africa.

This new service was commemorated yesterday, with 63 health worker call centre operators awarded certificates following the successful completion of an intensive training on the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) and Infection Prevention and Control measures delivered by GHS and WHO.
