Ghana celebrates World Mental Health Day

The government of Ghana joined the rest of the world in commemorating this year’s World Mental Health Day under the theme: “Mental Health in the Workplace

A grand durbar was organised to crown the dual programs World Mental Health Day and Mental Health Week at Jubilee Park on Saturday 12th October 2017. The durbar was preceded by a float on the principal streets in the Takoradi town-ship by students from Tertiary and Senior High Schools.

Ghana Celebrates World No Tobacco Day

Ghana celebrated World No Tobacco Day on 31st May 2016 in an Exhibition on Pictorial Warnings organized by the Vision for Alternative Development (VALD), The Ghana Health Service and its partners, including WHO, with the theme “Get Ready for Plain Packaging” at the GNAT Hall, in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.  

“My untold story” – A hepatitis patient in Ghana shares his experience

“Being infected with Hepatitis B is just like having a fatal disease. Once you are diagnosed with the disease, it is like a death sentence,” says 34-years-old Robert P. Idan. About 9 years ago, Robert, a music student at the University of Education in Winneba, Ghana, dropped out of school. He fell seriously ill, and the doctors initially diagnosed him with an auto immune disease.

Few years passed and Robert still did not feel well. One day, he decided to get tested, during one of the free screening and testing activities organized by the Hepatitis Foundation of Ghana.

Ghana Launches Smoking Cessation Clinical Guidelines & LI 2247 for Tobacco Control

Accra, 31 May 2017 - The World Health Organization (WHO) office in Ghana in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service and Foods and Drugs Authority launched the Smoking Cessation Clinical Guidelines for Ghana and Tobacco Control Regulations, LI 2247 during the national launch of World No Tobacco Day celebrations in Ghana.  The occasion also saw the presentation of the 2017 World No Tobacco Day, Director-General’s Awards to Mrs Olivia Agyekumwaa Boateng, Head of Tobacco and Substance Abuse, Foods and Drugs Authority.

Ghana Commemorates African Vaccination And Child Health Promotion Week

Accra, 2 June 2017 - Ghana has over the years integrated the Africa Vaccination Week (AVW) with Child Health Promotion Week (CHPW) as one of the sustainable ways of improving coverage of preventive child survival interventions. This year’s theme for the country was “Healthy Child, Start Right, do it right for total growth and development”. The theme for the AVW was “Vaccines protect everyone; get vaccinated”.

Ghana hosts MIM/TDR Task Force Meeting in Accra

ACCRA, GHANA, 09 TO 13 MARCH 2009 -- Ghana is to host an MIM/TDR Task Force Meeting which will be held at the African Regent Hotel, Airport West, Accra from 09 to 13 March 2009. Thirty (30) participants comprising 12 Task Force members, 10 Principal Investigators, 4 Observers and 4 staff members from WHO Headquarters are expected to participate in the meeting.
