COVAX expects to start sending millions of COVID-19 vaccines to Africa in February

COVAX has notified countries in Africa of the estimated dose allocation for the first phase of COVID-19 vaccine delivery. The global initiative led by the World Health Organization (WHO), Gavi the Vaccine Alliance and The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) aims to start shipping nearly 90 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to the continent in February, in what will be Africa’s largest ever mass vaccination campaign.

03 February 2021 — One hundred, and forty-six (146) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 4834 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases fifteen thousand, eight hundred, and thirty-four (15834). To date, ten thousand, nine hundred, and sixty-three (10963) patients have recovered, including two hundred, and eighteen (218) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is four thousand, six hundred, and sixty-three (4663) and two hundred, and eight (208) deaths.

Early cancer detection improves the chances of successful treatment, which presupposes the availability of equipped facilities and health workforce. Yet without the right information on prevention and care, many patients are diagnosed late, reducing their chances of survival. Abuja, 3 February, 2021 - As the COVID-19 pandemic gained momentum across the world with many countries, including Nigeria going on lockdown, there arose fears that the people living with HIV (PLHIV) might not have access to Antiretroviral (ARTs). The fears of the outbreak disrupting ARTs supplies to PLHIV in Nigeria was, however, not as devastating because the country had already adopted the Differentiated Service Delivery (DSD) model in December, 2019. The gains of the model became noticeable during the imposed lockdown by the government.

02 February 2021 — Two hundred, and twenty-nine (229) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 4257 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases fifteen thousand, six hundred, and eighty-eight (15688). To date, ten thousand, seven hundred, and forty-five (10745) patients have recovered, including four hundred, and seventy-three (473) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is four thousand, seven hundred, and thirty-eight (4738) and two hundred, and five (205) deaths.

At about 4:00 pm, a team from the field support team from the World Health Organization (WHO) meets Fahad Barigira, a 24-year-old man on the shores of Lake Edward. He is getting ready for his next fishing shift which starts at 5:00 pm and ends at 7:00 am the next day. 

Fahad is married with one child and has spent three years as a fisherman on the lake. He is part of a three-man fishing crew which includes his brother and a friend. 

The Government of China supports in strengthening COVID-19 Response in Ghana

Since the emergence of COVID-19 in December 2019, over 216 countries and territories have been affected globally. Like a raging fire, COVID-19 has left in its trail over a million deaths and 50 million infections worldwide. Ghana has had its share of this global pandemic, with a little over 49,000 confirmed cases and 320 deaths as at November 9, 2020.

This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases fifteen thousand, four hundred, and fifty-nine (15459). To date, ten thousand, two hundred, and seventy-two (10272) patients have recovered, including one hundred, and eighty-five (185) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is four thousand, nine hundred, and eighty-nine (4989) and one hundred, and ninety-eight (198) deaths. The 2 new deaths are all male of 83, and 41 years old in Kigali.

COVID-19, a disease caused by the SARS coronavirus-2 was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11, 2020., Ghana recorded its first two cases on March 12, 2020. As at November 1 2020, Ghana had recorded 48, 643 confirmed cases with 320 deaths.
The Government of Ghana, under the strong leadership and commitment of the President, His excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, responded quickly by instituting public health and social measures. Key among these public health measures was the strategy of ‘Trace, Test and Treat’ aimed at controlling the pandemic.
