Update COVID-19 02 July 2020

02 July 2020 — Twenty-one (21) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 3737 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to one thousand and sixty-three (1063). To date, four hundred and ninety-three (493) patients have recovered and been discharged, including thirteen (13) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is five hundred and sixty-seven (567) and three (3) deaths. 

Update COVID-19 01 July 2020

01 July 2020 — Seventeen (17) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 3961 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to one thousand and forty-two (1042). To date, four hundred and eighty (480) patients have recovered and been discharged, including thirty-three (33) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is five hundred and fifty-nine (559) and two (3) deaths. The new death is 51 years old Rwanda Defense Forces Officer who got COVID-19 abroad and had underlying conditions.

Current situation 
Namibia reported its first confirmed COVID-19 cases on 13 March 2020 and the Ministry declared the COVID-19 outbreak on 14 March 2020. Since then (as of 6 July 2020) Namibia has had several hundred sporadic cases (539 confirmed) and no recorded deaths. Until recently (the last two weeks), most (approximately 87%) of the confirmed cases have been found in travelers entering the country held in routine quarantine facilities.

30 June 2020 — Twenty-four (24) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 3694 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to one thousand and twenty-five (1025). To date, four hundred and forty-seven (447) patients have recovered and been discharged, including four (4) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is five hundred and seventy-six (576) and two (2) deaths.

Sierra Leone tackling malaria amidst COVID-19 outbreak response

Mass distribution of long-lasting insecticide treated bed nets is underway in Sierra Leone’s capital city, Freetown and its suburbs to complete a nationwide household distribution of 4.6 million mosquito nets. The campaign started in mid-May with nets distributed in 14 of the country’s 16 districts. The remaining two districts (Western Area Urban and Western Area Rural), in the capital and its suburbs account for around a fifth of the 7-million population and has also been accounting for nearly 60% of the confirmed COVID-19 cases.

The EU and WHO working Together to Defeat COVID-19 in Kenya

PRESS RELEASE: JUNE 29, 2020

The EU through its Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations department (ECHO) has donated KES 270 million (2,573,105 Million Euros) to WHO Kenya. This grant will be used by the WHO to support the Government of Kenya’s efforts to control the spread of the pandemic. Specifically, WHO Kenya will boost the response effort by training frontline health workers at national and county levels and strengthen the current work being done by the COVID-19 rapid response and clinical teams across all counties.

29 June 2020 — A hundred and one (101) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 2498 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to one thousand and one (1001). To date, four hundred and forty-three (443) patients have recovered and been discharged. The number of active cases is five hundred and fifty-six (556) and two (2) deaths.

Update COVID-19 28 June 2020

28 June 2020 — Twenty-two (22) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 3002 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to nine hundred (900). To date, four hundred and forty-three (443) patients have recovered and been discharged, including thirty (30) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is four hundred and fifty-five (455) and two (2) deaths.


The new cases are from Rusizi (8), Rubavu (7), Kigali (6) and Kirehe (1); heightened vigilance is required everywhere. 
 All active cases are in isolation in stable condition.
