Update COVID-19 14 September 2020

14 September 2020 — Eleven (11) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 1687 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to four thousand, six hundred, and two (4602). To date, two thousand, seven hundred, and thirty-six (2736) patients have recovered and been discharged, including one hundred and eighty (180) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, eight hundred, and forty-four (1844) and twenty-two (22) deaths.  

WHO supports Government to curb gender-based violence 

Abuja, 14 September, 2020 - World Health Organization (WHO) Nigeria has ramped up partnerships with the Nigerian government to improve awareness on the health challenges of violence against women and the importance of health sector response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV), particularly in the northeast, where thousands of conflict-displaced persons are receiving humanitarian aid.

13 September 2020 — Twenty-six (26) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 2722 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to four thousand, five hundred, and ninety-one (4591). To date, two thousand, five hundred, and fifty-six (2556) patients have recovered and been discharged, including twelve (12) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is two thousand and thirteen (2013) and twenty-two (22) deaths.  

Update COVID-19 12 September 2020

12 September 2020 — Thirty-one (31) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 2901 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to four thousand, five hundred, and thirty-four (4565). To date, two thousand, five hundred, and forty-four (2544) patients have recovered and been discharged, including ninety-four (94) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, nine hundred, and ninety-nine (1999) and twenty-two (22) deaths.  

Update COVID-19 11 September 2020

11 September 2020 — Fifty-five (55) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 3027 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to four thousand, five hundred, and thirty-four (4534). To date, two thousand, four hundred, and fifty (2450) patients have recovered and been discharged, including ninety-eight (98) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is two thousand, and sixty-two (2062) and twenty-two (22) deaths.

COVID-19 genome sequencing laboratory network launches in Africa

With several African countries now expanding COVID-19 testing, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) have launched a network of laboratories to reinforce genome sequencing of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus that causes COVID-19, in Africa.

09 September 2020 — Twenty-one (21) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 3805 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to four thousand, four hundred, and sixty (4460). To date, two thousand, three hundred, and twenty-five (2325) patients have recovered and been discharged, including eighteen (18) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is two thousand, one hundred, and fourteen (2114) and twenty-one (21) deaths.  The new death is a male Rwandan of 71 years old.
