Banjul—In The Gambia, bold and coordinated efforts are improving access to lifesaving vaccines for adolescent girls across the country. To catch up on vaccination of girls missed during a 2025 campaign, The Gambia implemented a week-long human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign targeting girls aged 9–14 years in three regions in April 2026.

The Government of The Gambia, through the Ministry of Health and the Directorate of Health Research, has made significant strides towards strengthening national health research systems with the successful validation of a National Health Research Governance Framework.

This milestone is the result of a structured, inclusive process supported by the World Health Organization (WHO), bringing together key stakeholders across government institutions, research bodies, academia, development partners and opinion leaders in the field.

Banjul — The World Health Organization (WHO) has handed over two fully-equipped ambulances and oxygen concentrators to the Ministry of Health (MoH), boosting The Gambia’s capacity to provide timely emergency referrals and lifesaving care.

The donation, valued at approximately USD 200,000 (about GMD 15 million), was presented during a ceremony attended by the Honourable Minister of Health, Dr Ahmadou Lamin Samateh; the WHO Representative, Dr Nathan Bakyaita; senior MoH officials; and frontline health workers.
