Malaria continues to pose a significant public health and development challenge. The most recent World Malaria Report revealed an estimated 241 million malaria cases and 627,000 deaths in 2020. The WHO African Region carries a disproportionately high share of the global malaria burden being home to 95% and 96% of malaria cases and deaths respectively.

US Government Donates Pfizer Vaccines to Government of The Gambia

Another boost to Gambia’s Covid-19 vaccination efforts was the arrival, on 3 March 2022, of 100,0620 doses of the Pfizer vaccine, donated by the Government of the United States of America.

The Gambia Draws the Line Against Malaria & Gears To Eliminate It

Banjul - The Gambia commemorates the World Malaria Day (WMD) under the theme, “Zero Malaria- Draw the Line Against Malaria.” The Gambia is one of six countries in World Health Organization African Region that have achieved the 2020 milestones of reducing malaria cases and deaths by 40% compared to 2015. This was declared at a media briefing held to commemorate the WMD 2021 on 23rd April 2021. This achievement ensues while the country is still fighting COVID-19 pandemic.
