2011 World TB Day in Ghana

Ghana, 24 march 2011 -- Every year, March 24, the birthday of Dr Robert Koch who discovered the germ that causes Tuberculosis, is celebrated as World TB Day. This year in Ghana was no exception with all roads leading to the Jubilee Park, Sunyani the capital of the Brong Ahafo Region for the national launch of the World TB Day (WTB) 2011. The theme was "On the move against TB; Transforming the fight towards elimination".

2010 World AIDS Day celebrated in Ghana

The Jubilee Park in the twin cities of Sekondi-Takoradi, the capital of the Western Region in Ghana was the scene of a very colourful 2010 World AIDS Day Celebration. The well organized function, honorably graced by His Excellency Mr John Dramani Mahama, the Vice President of Ghana, was attended by people from all walks of life ranging from school children, civil society organizations, persons living with HIV (PLHIV), chiefs and traditional rulers to Development partners.

United Nations Foundation board participates in measles SIA activities in Ghana

Kumasi, Ghana, 24 october 2010 -- The 2010 measles supplemental immunization activities (SIA) in Ghana received a major boost last friday when a 28-member team from the UN Foundation led by the President of the Board of Directors, Mr. Ted Turner, joined health teams in two sub-districts in Kumasi capital city of the Ashanti region in preparatory activities towards the campaign scheduled from 3-6 November. Launch of National Immunization Days against Polio

Ghana hosts MIM/TDR Task Force Meeting in Accra

ACCRA, GHANA, 09 TO 13 MARCH 2009 -- Ghana is to host an MIM/TDR Task Force Meeting which will be held at the African Regent Hotel, Airport West, Accra from 09 to 13 March 2009. Thirty (30) participants comprising 12 Task Force members, 10 Principal Investigators, 4 Observers and 4 staff members from WHO Headquarters are expected to participate in the meeting.

 

WHO is committed to the survival of every child – saweka

Accra, 26 July 2008 -- Dr Joaquim Saweka, the WHO Representative to Ghana, has re-affirmed the Organization's commitment and support for the survival of children in the country. Dr Saweka observed that though interventions such as promotion of exclusive breastfeeding, appropriate complementary feeding, micronutrient supplementation with vitamin A, use of iodized salt and other strategies to reduce the burden of malaria during pregnancy are widely available, there is still the challenge of making these services accessible to all children in the country as expected.
