AFRO and EURO joint leadership workshop ends in Tanzania

Dar es Salaam ‒ A joint leadership training workshop aimed at empowering World Health Organization (WHO) staff from the European and African regions concluded in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The four-day workshop gathered 26 staff comprising existing and prospective WHO representatives to enhance their leadership skills, foster collaboration and drive impactful change in the global healthcare landscape.

The training which is part of the WHO Pathways to Leadership for Health Transformation, provided participants with the skills needed to address the difficult problems encountered by WHO country offices, acting as a catalyst for both personal and professional growth. The programme encouraged participants to embrace innovation, diversity and resilience in their efforts to advance public health in Europe and Africa with a focus on transformational leadership. 

One of the highlights of the workshop was the opportunity for representatives from EURO and AFRO regions to collaborate and exchange knowledge and experiences. 
"The remarkable collaboration between AFRO and EURO in enhancing the leadership capacity of prospective and existing WHO representatives exemplified the transformative potential of unity, diversity and the collective sharing of knowledge, propelling us towards a brighter future for global health," said Dr Brian Chimbaru, WHO Representative in Rwanda.
The training workshop featured a diverse range of interactive sessions led by renowned experts in leadership development and global health. Through engaging presentations, case studies, simulation and group activities. Participants gained insights on effective communication, strategic decision-making and the art of influencing positive change within the Organization and in communities.

Dr Asheena Khalakdina, WHO Representative in Uzbekistan said: “Bringing together a group of aspiring and experienced WRs for such a cutting-edge training, especially from two different regions, is a big investment which highlights the Organization's commitment to building stronger, more effective WHO Country Offices that are fit for the future."
The knowledge and skills acquired during this intensive workshop will undoubtedly strengthen the capacity of WHO representatives. These empowered leaders will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of global health, driving progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals and ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare for all.
