From 24 to 25 July 2014 at the Bingu International Conference Center in Lilongwe, the Ministry of Health convened a meeting of partners that collaborated in the implementation of the Human Papilloma Virus vaccine demonstration project in two districts. The aim of the meeting was to share the experiences and the lessons learnt during the one year of implementation and plan for the second year. By the end of the meeting, the participants developed the year two activities for dosing, integration and activity timelines.

Monrovia, 22 July 2014 - The World Health Organization’s Regional Director for Africa Dr Luis Sambo began official visits to the three West African Countries of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. On the first leg of the visit, the Regional Director arrived in Liberia on Monday 21 July 2014 to review current outbreak response and challenges, and explore the best ways to rapidly contain the EVD outbreak in West Africa.

The theme for this year, “Safe blood for saving mothers” focuses on raising people’s awareness about the critical need for safe products to be available to everyone, especially for women suffering from severe bleeding during delivery or after childbirth.

BANJUL, 17 June 2014 - The United Nation System in The Gambia through the World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday presented an assortment of medical items and other supplies to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in Banjul in support of national Ebola preparedness and response efforts.

Today marks another significant milestone in the fight against vaccine preventable diseases in South Sudan as the country launches the pentavalent vaccine.  The launch ceremony took place at the El Sabah Children Hospital. High-level government officials including the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Hon. Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro, the state Minister of Health Hon. Dr. Emmanuel Baya and the Deputy Governor for Central Equatoria State, Hon. Hakim Deng Dugue and international dignitaries, including GAVI and UN agencies Representatives attended the launch.

15 July 2014 – Ten months after starting work in Wau Hospital, a new maternity theatre and waiting home have officially been opened by His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit. The new maternity theatre and waiting home, built by the World Health Organization with funds from the Canadian International Development Agency, now called DFATD. The waiting home is an 18-bed facility with a kitchen extension to support mothers as they wait for their time of delivery.

14 June 2014, Gymkhana Club Ground, Zomba: The Malawi Blood Transfusion Services (MBTS Trust) on 14 June 2014, led all partners and Malawians in commemorating the World Blood Donor Day.
