Immunization managers from 20 Eastern and Southern African Countries are meeting in Kampala, Uganda, to review implementation of immunization in the region and to devise ways of reaching every eligible child and all target populations in the respective countries.

Dar es Salaam, 21 March 2016 : Tanzania is party to the Addis Declaration on Immunization which is a historic and timely pledge to ensure that all children in Africa have the full benefits of immunization. The declaration among other things commits to increase vaccine related funding, strengthening supply chain and delivery systems, and making universal access to vaccines a cornerstone of health and development efforts.

21 March 2017 - In a move that is meant to strengthen relations between WHO Zimbabwe and the Swedish Embassy, the new Swedish Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Her Excellence, Mrs Sophia Calltorp, and the Desk Officer for Health, Ms Angelica Broman paid a courtesy call to WHO Zimbabwe Country Office to discuss areas of cooperation through their aid agency SIDA (Swedish International Development Agency).

Monrovia 20th March, 2017 - Liberia has strengthened its Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) surveillance system a key strategy for polio eradication. This is reflected in several achievements registered including enhanced capacity of AFP surveillance at county, district and community levels countrywide, and community engagement and sensitization on AFP identification and reporting.

Today WHO Sierra Leone released its latest Progress Report, which documents achievements and lessons learned across the health sector over the course of 2016. This was a milestone year as the country strove to advance the post-Ebola Presidential Recovery Priorities (PRPs) as well as the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Matshidiso Moeti is on an official visit to Republic of Niger from the 20 - 22 March 2017. Today she paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Issoufou Mahamadou, the President of Niger. 

Currently Sierra Leone’s largest every survey of health facilities is underway as part of an extended Service Availability and Readiness Assessment (SARA+), which aims to provide critical data and information on health service quality and availability right across the country. It will also enable comprehensive mapping of current health services.
