Update COVID-19 19 April 2021

19 April 2021 — Twenty-two (46) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 3605 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases twenty-three thousand, nine hundred, and thirty-four (23934). To date, twenty-two thousand, four hundred, and eight (22408) patients have recovered, including one hundred, and sixty-seven (167) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand and two hundred (1200) and three hundred and twenty-six (326) deaths. 

Frontline Health workers in Hoima District Hesitate about COVID-19 vaccination, then...

Under normal circumstances, one would expect frontline health workers to be lining up in thousands to receive the much-anticipated lifesaving COVID-19 vaccine that does not only offer scientifically proven protection to them but also saves the lives of the eager patients.

The COVID-19 outbreak has ushered in some strange behaviours among some front-line health workers in Uganda among which is vaccine hesitancy. Who could have imagined that health workers would be hesitant about a vaccine whose benefits they know very well?

WHO provides an ambulance and motorcycles to Kigoma Region

19 April 2021, Kigoma Region: In a bid to contribute to preparedness of Kigoma region against epidemic prone diseases and general improvement of health services the region, the World Health Organization donated an ambulance and four motorcycles, worthy TZS 119.9 million. Because of its location on the border with Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi, Kigoma region is a critical area in Tanzania’s preparedness against outbreaks. Additionally, have frequent population movements as it hosts refugees from the two nations.

18 April 2021 — Twenty-two (22) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 3172 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases twenty-three thousand, eight hundred, and eighty-eight (23888). To date, twenty-two thousand, two hundred, and forty-one (22241) patients have recovered, including one hundred, and fifty-nine (159) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, three hundred, and twenty-two (1322) and three hundred and twenty-five (325) deaths. 

Update COVID-19 17 April 2021

17 April 2021 — Fifty-four (54) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 4324 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases twenty-three thousand, eight hundred, and sixty-six (23866). To date, twenty-two thousand, and eighty-two (22082) patients have recovered, including sixty-seven (67) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, four hundred, and sixty-two (1462) and three hundred and twenty-two (322) deaths. 

Update COVID-19 16 April 2021

16 April 2021 — Sixty-eight (68) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 6014 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases twenty-three thousand, eight hundred and twelve (23812). To date, twenty-two thousand, and fifteen (22015) patients have recovered, including two hundred and ten (210) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, four hundred, and seventy-five (1475) and three hundred and twenty-two (322) deaths. 

Zambia launches the COVID-19 vaccination

The Honourable Minister of Health, Dr. Jonas Chanda officially launched the COVID-19 vaccination on 14 April 2021 at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka. Zambia received the first consignment of 228,000 doses of the vaccine from the COVAX facility, a global Initiative representing a partnership between the World Health Organization (WHO), Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), United Nation’s Children Fund (UNICEF) and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) working on the equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.
