The WHO Regional Office for Africa is pleased to announce that the third International Conference on PEN-Plus in Africa (ICPPA 2026) will be held in Tanzania from June 23-26, 2026, in Dar Es Salaam. 

This year’s ICPPA will be held under the theme:"Advancing progress toward SDG targets for NCDs in Africa by 2030:  Reflections on PEN-Plus implementation; Progress, Challenges and the Future"

Call for abstracts

Overview

The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa, the Government of Tanzania, and partners of the PENPlus initiative, invite the submission of scientific abstracts for presentation at the ICPPA 2026 Regional HighLevel Conference.

The conference will convene policymakers, clinicians, researchers, programme implementers, civil society, academia, and people living with chronic and severe noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) to showcase evidence, innovations, and best practices that can advance equitable care for severe NCDs in Africa.

This call specifically seeks research and implementation evidence aligned with the PENPlus regional strategy that aims to provide essential NCD services to alleviate the burden of unaddressed, severe NCDs (such as - Type 1 Diabetes, Sickel Cell Disease, Rheumatic Heart Disease, hear failure, severe asthma, severe hypertension) among populations through decentralized, outpatient services and integrated case management in the African Region.   


  • Opening of Call: Abstracts submissions will open on February 28th, 2026
  • Submission deadline: The abstract submission deadline is April 15th, 2026 at 11:59 PM CAT (Central Africa Time)
  • Evaluation: All submitted abstracts will be reviewed by at least three independent reviewers
  • Acceptance: Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their submissions by 30th April, 2026
  • Accepted abstracts: Accepted abstracts will be presented as either oral or poster presentations at the 3rd ICPPA 2026
