The WHO Regional Office for Africa, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Rwanda, organizes at Kigali, Rwanda, from 30th May to 3rd June 2011, a training workshop in two sessions, the first one on the programmatic management of Drug Resistant Tuberculosis, and the second on Drug Resistance Surveys (DRS) and Drug Resistant Tuberculosis recording and reporting for Program Epidemiologists, statisticians and data managers from selected participating countries.

The Ministry of Health of Rwanda in collaboration with its health sector development partners is conducting the Midterm review (MTR) and Joint assessment of Health Sector Strategic Plan II (JANS of HSSPII).

This activity is led by the Ministry of Health and is financially and technically supported by the IHP+ under the coordination of the WHO, both in preparatory phases, facilitation of the recruitment of the international consultants, and the actual activity of the review.

As part of their continuing efforts aimed at improving the lives of mothers and children in Rwanda, and reducing the relatively high rate of deaths from complications of pregnancy and childbirth, WHO and UNFPA are currently providing both technical and financial support to the Rwanda Ministry of Health to evaluate the impact of the implementation of recommendations made following the conduct of maternal death audits (MDA) in Rwanda.

The World Health Organization, in collaboration with UNAIDS, UNFPA, UNICEF and the Ministry of Health of Rwanda, organizes at Kigali, Rwanda, a three days workshop, from 24th to 26th August 2011, on the strengthening male involvement in the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

The Ministry of Health of Rwanda in collaboration with World Health Organization and other partners organized a national capacity building training on child management in Musanze District, Northern Province, from 19th to 23rd September 2011.

At less than five years to the MDG target, a still high under five mortality prevails and the coverage of key child survival interventions remain low, particularly in the African Region.

On the 20th of October 2011, Dr Delanyo DOVLO presented his letters of credence appointing him as WHO Country Representative in Rwanda, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. Dr Dovlo met with Honourable Minister Mrs Louise MUSHIKIWABO who welcomed Dr Dovlo to Rwanda. The WHO Representative assured the Minister that WHO will continue to provide technical support in health matters in accordance with the priorities determined by the Government of Rwanda, and as set out in the WHO’s Country Cooperation Strategy for Rwanda.

The Government of Rwanda, through the Ministry of Health has hosted an inter-country IMCI Computerised Adaptation Training Tool (ICATT) orientation and capacity building workshop bringing together 30 senior child health specialist from 5 countries (Botswana, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, and Zimbabwe) from 5th to 9th December 2011.

The workshop aims to orient and train participants in the application and use of the ICATT software for quick adaptation of IMCI guidelines and scaling up training of health workers using computers.

The Ministry of Health of Rwanda in collaboration with WHO organized a two day workshop from 13th to 14th December 2011 to define priority operation/implementation research questions. The role of operation/implementation research is significantly to improve access to efficacious health interventions by developing practical solutions to common, critical problems in the implementation of these interventions. Le Rwanda a célébré cette année la Journée Mondiale du Cancer le 22 mars 2012. Le thème de l’année, « Ensemble, c’est possible», a été adapté et traduit en langue nationale. Aussi, une campagne de vaccination contre le cancer de l’utérus a été organisée durant la semaine précédente.
