Eritrea Observed World AIDS Day 2018

World AIDS Day 2018 was observed in Eritrea on 1 December 2018 under the theme “Know your Status” in Keren at the stadium with enthusiasm. This year was the 30th anniversary to mark the day.

Eritrea developed cervical cancer prevention and control guideline

A consensus building workshop was conducted on cervical cancer prevention and control guideline at Median Hotel in Asmara in May 2018 in the presence of participants from MOH, Asmara College of Health Science, WHO including other UN Agencies. The main objective of the workshop was to develop consensus among the technical working group on the detailed content of the comprehensive cervical cancer prevention and control guideline in Eritrea; design the guideline; come up with a final draft document, provide responsibilities to the technical working group and draft an implementation plan.

WHO-Eritrea staff strengthened its capacity on Theory of change and RBM

The "theory of change" workshop, was held from 2 to 5 April 2018 at Hotel Asmara Palace to all 23 WHO staff in Eritrea, facilitated by Mr Semere Gebregiorgis (HSS focal point). The workshop aimed to strengthen knowledge and capacities for the application of results-based management (RBM) in general and theory of change (ToC) in particular.

Eritrea Commemorated World Health Day 2018

Eritrea also joined the world commemorating WHD 2018. World Health Day is an international day devoted to the promotion of health. It is celebrated annually on 7 April to mark the anniversary of the creation of the World Health Organization (WHO). In Eritrea, it was held on 20th April 2018 at Orotta Hospital Conference Hall under the theme "Universal health coverage: for everyone, everywhere"; making an appeal health for all.

This important workshop was officially opened by the Director General of Medical Services, Mr Berhane Gebretensae on behalf of Hon. Minister of Health. In his remarks, he underlined the SDGs and UHC’s unique perspective and approach that requires a serious multi- and inter-sectoral engagement. He underscored the efforts of Eritrea in developing the five-year health sector strategic development plan focusing on health security and conceptualization Universal Health Coverage.

Eritrea Marked World Diabetes Day 2017

World Diabetes Day 2017 was observed in Eritrea on 14 November 2017 nationally in the port city of Assab and in all zobas with the theme entitled: "Our right to a healthy future" as a diabetic week.  In this very important commemoration day the officials from the MOH Southern Red Sea, Administrator of Southern Red Sea, Directors of health services of the MOH and Chairperson of Diabetic Association, WHO staff and faith based organizations were present. The commemoration was officially opened by the Eritrean National Diabetes Association (ENDA).

Training on Malaria Elimination Surveillance

WHO in collaboration with the Ministry of Health conducted training at Orotta Hospital conference Hall in October 2017 for participants from all districts (zobas), head offices, Malaria programme staffs, Health Management Information System (HMIS) and WHO staff.
