Asmara, Eritrea, 21 May 2019 — Eritrea joined the rest of the African region to commemorate the 9th annual African Vaccination Week (AVW) from 22 to 28 April 2019 under the theme ‘Protected Toget

The East and Southern African (ESA) Countries on Wednesday concluded the annual EPI Managers Meeting held in Asmara, Eritrea from 18-20 March 2019, with participants agreeing on 20 recommendations aimed at reaching more children with lifesaving vaccines consequently accelerating implementation of the Addis Declaration on Immunization to attain the Universal Health Coverage. 

The World Health Day was observed in Eritrea 17 April 2019 in the capital, Asmara and other regions of the country under the theme “Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere”. Ministry of Health (MOH) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other UN Agencies held a seminar at Orotta Hospital Conference Hall to discuss the importance of Universal Health Coverage and the steps towards progress that Eritrea has been taking.

High level advocacy meeting on maternal perinatal death surveillance and response (MPDSR) institutionalizing in Eritrea has been held from 1 to 3 April 2019 at Orotta Conference Hall.

WHO jointly with MOH and line ministries held a consensus building workshop on the national Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance on February 2019 at the National Confederation of Eritrean workers.

Cervical cancer occurs when the cells of the cervix grow abnormally and invade other tissues and organs of the body. When it is invasive, this cancer affects the deeper tissues of the cervix and may have spread to other parts of the body.

Eritrea commemorated World TB Day on  the 23^rd March 2019 in Gash Barka region, Barentu city, with the theme “It is time to end TB”.  Millions of people continue to fall sick with TB each year and it is one of the top 10 causes of death worldwide.
