Sierra Leone Launches Partnership for Safe Medicines Initiative
The Ministry of Health and Sanitation launched a partnership for safe medicines initiative on 17 January 2012. The initiative is aimed at ensuring quality, effica-cy and safety of all medicines and promotion of rational use of medicines among healthcare providers and patients. The Partnership is a coalition of consumer groups, pharmaceutical business associations, the medical and dental associa-tion, traders associations, civil society organizations, universities and other pro-fessional bodies and development partners that are committed to the safety of medicines and protecting patients against use of counterfeit and substandard pharmaceutical products.
The partnership was officially launched in Freetown by Hon Zainab Bangura, Minister of Health and Sanitation.
