MenAfriVac Campaign in Ghana: Communication plan elaboration

The mass vaccination campaign against Meningoccocal Meningitis « A » will take place in Ghana from 2-12 October, 2012.

This campaign concerns Ghana’s three northern regions and will target more than 4 million people between the ages of 1 and 29.

In preparation for this important public health event, the national authorities in partnership with their financial and technical partners, decided to launch the preparation phase of this campaign.

In Tamalé, health managers from both national and all 3 regional levels began working to identify the key components of the communication plan (objectives, strategies, activities,-) which will assure quality follow up during the implementation of the 10 day campaign.

This Workshop facilitated by the central level of the MoH is technically supported by UNICEF and WHO through GAVI Alliance funds.

The role of communication in this public health intervention is a key component to the success of the campaign and the various speakers during the opening ceremony have emphasized its role.

At the end of this year, Ghana would have introduced 4 new vaccines..

By next October, the mass vaccination campaign against Meningococcal meningitis « A » will conclude the efforts of Ghana’s national authorities who have decided to use prevention as a main strategy to reduce diseases among its population.
