Kenya hosts 1st African Regional Workshop on Coordinated Approaches to Pneumonia and Diarrhoea Prevention and Control

Kenya hosted the First African Regional workshop on coordinated approaches to pneumonia and diarrhea prevention and control. The Director of Public Health and Sanitation, Dr. Sharif Shenaz officially opened the four-day workshop titled "protect, prevent and treat" on Tuesday 25th January 2011. The workshop, the first in a series of regional workshops aims at finding synergetic actions accelerating the implementation of the Global Action Plan for Prevention and Control of Pneumonia (GAPP) and diarrhea among children under five years of age. The workshop held at the Nairobi Safari Club Hotel was attended by 150 participants representing national programme managers from eight African countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia and Ghana); technical officers from WHO and UNICEF at country, IST, Regional, and HQ levels; country, regional and global partners and stakeholders (Gates Foundation, USAID, PATH, Clinton Foundation, AMREF, Pediatric Association of Kenya among others). .
