The Ministry of Health, WHO, and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) launched the National Laboratory Strategic Plan for Botswana. The Strategic Plan holds the promise of numerous benefits for the country. It aims to modernize and upgrade laboratory infrastructure to better standards, ensuring the safe and efficient handling of samples. By expanding and improving diagnostic services, Botswana will be better equipped to detect, diagnose, and manage diseases promptly.

Eighty learners from high schools in Windhoek and Osire are preparing to discuss pressing public health challenges of our time when they meet to simulate the United Nations in Windhoek.

The learners met at the United Nations office in Windhoek on Saturday, 21 October for mock simulations in preparation for the Model United Nations Namibia (MUNNAM) conference scheduled for 1 and 2 November. 

The WHO-led Epidemic Intelligence from Open Sources (EIOS) training program equips public health specialists to strengthen Botswana’s public health infrastructure. In the ever-evolving landscape of public health, timely and accurate health emergency monitoring is a vital resource to track and respond to outbreaks. 

The Regional Office for Africa (AFRO), WHO Geneva in collaboration with WHO Namibia and the Ministry of Health and Social Services conducted a training on Global Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and Use surveillance system (GLASS) and WHONET tool in Windhoek, for 12 selected member states. The training aimed to build capacity of Member States to establish and/or enhance national surveillance systems for AMR and generate, collect, report, and use quality data to inform decisions at the country, regional and global levels.  

In a bid to strengthen global health security, the World Health Organization (WHO) has concluded a comprehensive assessment of Angola's readiness and response to health threats. This initiative, the Joint External Evaluation (JEE), took place between 25th and 29th September 2023.

The Yellow Fever sub-national risk analysis findings dissemination workshop, and consultative and advocacy meeting was held in Addis Ababa Ethiopia on 4th October 2023. The workshop was organized by World Health Organization (WHO) Ethiopia in collaboration with Ministry of Health (MoH) and global and in-country partners.
