The national polio eradication initiative oversight bodies in Nigeria have for some time requested for systematic engagement of the youth in the polio programme.

Abuja, Nigeria, 12 November, 2014- The National Council of Health (NCH) for Nigeria has approved both the National Health Workforce Registry(NHWR) Operation Guidelines & Policy Amendment for adoption by all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at the NCH held on 30th October 2014 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Entebbe, 11th November 2014:- The Minister of State for Health in charge of general duties flagged off 8,141 mattresses meant for 46 General hospitals and 173 Health Centre IVs across the country. This took place at the National Medical Stores (NMS)  premises in Entebbe.

As of 22 October 2014, a delegation of 53 Cuban health workers arrived in Liberia to help fight the Ebola outbreak. The Cuban team consists of nurses, doctors, epidemiologists and intensive care specialists. Having received an initial Ebola training in Cuba, all team members received a second training in Liberia on how to work in an Ebola treatment unit.

Entebbe, 11th November 2014:- The Minister of State for Health in Charge of General Duties Hon. Elioda Tumwesigye has urged men to play their part in maternal health care. This he said at the launch of the National Male Involvement Strategy and Guidelines at LAICO Lake Victoria Hotel, Entebbe.

9 May 2014 Dakar, Senegal - The Regional workshop on budget analysis and advocacy, organized under the auspices of the Harmonization for Health in Africa (HHA) partnership, ended with a commitment from participants to work together towards improving transparency and accountability in health sector budgetary allocation and expenditure, for better health outcomes for t women and children.

World Polio Day celebrated on 24 October 2014 alongside UN Day

World Polio Day was commemorated on 24 October 2014 in an event organized by the World Health Organization, UNICEF and Rotary International at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) premises, as a symbol of the UN and Rotary International standing together in the fight against polio. The Day was also for the first time celebrated alongside the UN Day.
