Abuja, Nigeria, 12 November 2014 - Since the World Health Assembly at its sixty-fifth session of May 2012 declared Polio Eradication as a Public Health emergency of global significance, Nigeria continues to respond with equal degree of urgency to stop transmission by end 2014 through churning out streams of innovations / approaches to reach persistently missed children. The national polio eradication initiative oversight bodies in Nigeria have for some time requested for systematic engagement of the youth in the polio programme.

Minister of Health flags off mattresses for Health Facilities

Entebbe, 11th November 2014:- The Minister of State for Health in charge of general duties flagged off 8,141 mattresses meant for 46 General hospitals and 173 Health Centre IVs across the country. This took place at the National Medical Stores (NMS)  premises in Entebbe.

Cuban health workers in Liberia

As of 22 October 2014, a delegation of 53 Cuban health workers arrived in Liberia to help fight the Ebola outbreak. The Cuban team consists of nurses, doctors, epidemiologists and intensive care specialists. Having received an initial Ebola training in Cuba, all team members received a second training in Liberia on how to work in an Ebola treatment unit.

The Day was also for the first time celebrated alongside the UN Day.
