Kampala, 26th April 2019: - The World Health Organization (WHO) Representative Dr Yonas Tegegn Wodermariam and staff recently briefed ambassadors and heads of bilateral and multilateral organizations in Uganda on the current Ebola situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the preparedness activities implemented in the country since August 2018.

The World Health Day was observed in Eritrea 17 April 2019 in the capital, Asmara and other regions of the country under the theme “Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere”. Ministry of Health (MOH) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other UN Agencies held a seminar at Orotta Hospital Conference Hall to discuss the importance of Universal Health Coverage and the steps towards progress that Eritrea has been taking.

Kampala 25 April 2019: - The Ministries of Health, Education, Gender and Local government have committed to improving the coverage of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in Uganda. This was at the National Symposium for Multi-Sectoral Stakeholders' renewed commitment towards increasing HPV Vaccination coverage, that was held at the Golf Course Hotel in Kampala.

Zimbabwe successfully hosted the 2^nd Annual Afro II Project Regional Coordination and Steering Committee from 10-12 April 2019 in Harare. The main objective of the meeting was to assess the participating countries` progress towards the implementation of the planned project activities for the period 2018-2019. The 1^st Annual Afro II Project Regional Coordination and Steering Committee meeting was held in Eswatini, in April 2018.

Gaborone, Botswana - 23 April 2019: The Republic of Turkey’s new Ambassador to Botswana, Her Excellency Meltem Büyükkaraş, paid a courtesy visit to the WHO Country Office to explore potential areas for cooperation and support to the Government of Botswana by the Turkish government. The ambassador expressed her pleasure in meeting with WHO and highlighted her intention to understand key  issues that currently affect Botswana’s health care system.

18 April 2019, Juba – The World Health Organization (WHO) emergency medical mobile team (EMMT) in collaboration with the Jubek State Ministry of Health and partners, supported the provision of the much-needed integrated essential lifesaving health care services to over 5 000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Dulamaya Boma in Rokon County, Jubek State from 8 – 14 April 2019. This was in a bid to fulfil the recommendations of the initial rapid assessment conducted in March 2019.

Kampala, 24th April 2019:- Uganda’s Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) preparedness and response have capacity gaps that need urgent attention to be able to effectively respond to a potential outbreak of the disease. The gaps were identified during a Simulation Exercise (SimEx) that was conducted recently in Wakiso (Entebbe) and Kasese (Mpondwe and Kagando) districts.
