World No Tobacco Day –National Assembly approves regulations on tobacco control

Abuja, 31 May 2019- As Nigeria joins the world to commemorate the 2019 World No Tobacco Day with the theme, “Tobacco and Lung Health: don’t let Tobacco take your breath away”, the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) today announced the recent passage of the 2018 National Tobacco Regulations by the National Assembly. The passage of the regulations will ensure effective implementation of the 2015 National Tobacco Control Act.

Kampala 31 May 2019:- World No Tobacco Day 2019 was commemorated in Uganda with a call to all sectors of government to reach most-at-risk population with strong anti-smoking messages.

“We need to reach out to the people especially in slums because they consume a lot of tobacco and alcohol products which are harmful to their health” said Hon Sarah Opendi, Minister of State for Health who was the guest of honor at the event commemorated under the national theme: Don’t Let Tobacco Take Your Breath Away.

Kampala, 30th May 2019:- The government of Uganda and partners have so far invested over 18 million dollars in  Ebola Virus Disease (EVD)  preparedness and readiness.  This was revealed at the just concluded Accountability Forum organized by the Ministry of Health at which partners shared information on their contribution in the EVD preparedness efforts in the country.

Seychelles launches its third multi-sectorial National Strategic Plan for HIV, AIDS and Viral Hepatitis to guide interventions for the next five years

Victoria, Seychelles, 22nd May 2019 - The HIV epidemic remains one of the major public health and development challenges in Seychelles. The country has a concentrated HIV epidemic with high levels of HIV amongst certain key populations at higher risk of HIV exposure including the youth, people who inject drugs, men who have sex with men and sex workers. The country’s HIV and AIDS situation was echoed during the launching of the National Strategic Plan for HIV, AIDS and Viral Hepatitis 2019-2023 (NSP) which took place recently in a ceremony at the Savoy Resort in Beau Vallon, Seychelles.
