Tororo, 22nd October 2014:- Uganda commemorated the Safe Motherhood Day with a series of activities under the theme, ‘Mobilizing men as Partners and champions in prevention of teenage pregnancy’. The national commemoration was held in Tororo district and presided over by the First Lady of Uganda and Minister of Karamoja, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni.

Kampala, 15th October 2014:- The 13th Dr. Mathew Lukwiya which was organized Makerere University College of Health Sciences in partnership with World Health Organization (WHO) and Uganda National Association of Community and Occupational Health, (UNACOH) was held at Imperial Royale Hotel to remember the health workers that lost their lives to Ebola and other diseases.

KAMPALA, 8 October 2014 – The Government and partners have stepped up efforts to combat Marburg, a deadly viral haemorrhagic fever.

Through the Ministry of Health, partners like UNICEF and WHO are responding to the outbreak by supporting areas of social mobilisation geared towards creating more awareness about the disease, technical assistance as well as logistical support for contact tracing.

Kampala, 30th September 2014:- The World Health Organization (WHO) with funding from SIDA donated material to be used in strengthening capacity for youth friendly service provision as well as HIV prevention in Uganda. This was done at the WHO country office premises.

Kampala, 29th September 2014:-  Makerere University College of Health Sciences in partnership with World Health Organization (WHO) and Uganda National Association of Community and Occupational Health, (UNACOH) commenced the three-day Joint Annual Scientific Health Conference under the theme “Innovations towards attaining Vision 2040 Health Goals: Where are we, how do we get there”. The conference will involve extensive discussions on health research and innovation aimed at attaining the Vision 2040 health goals.

Kampala, 10th September 2014:- Uganda hosted the first inter-country meeting on Strengthening the measurement of Reproductive Health (RH) indicators that brought together experts from Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda and Zimbabwe. This was to share experiences and update indicators from the national level consultations that were undertaken in Nairobi in 2012. The meeting was focussed on identifying the progress that had been made at country level in trying to add important Family planning and abortion related indicators.

Kampala, 3rd September 2014:- The Minister of State for Health (Primary Health Care), Hon Sarah Opendi, has urged Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), UN Agencies and Government to unite and fight Gender Based Violence (GBV). She said this at a meeting held at Hotel African to launch the Gender Based Violence Advocacy Pack under the theme ‘Championing prevention and response to GBV”.

Kampala, 28th August 2014:- Uganda’s Minister of Health (MoH), Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has urged health workers to learn from China that has effectively integrated traditional with modern medicine to improve the health of its people.  He recommended this at a 3-days conference on Traditional Medicine (TM) currently going on at Hotel Africana under the theme: “Promoting evidence based use of traditional medicine in the health care system; an opportunity for improving equity in health care”. 

Kampala, 15th August 2014:- As the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) continues to ravage Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone in West Africa, Uganda is one of the few countries that have sent deferent cadres of health workers to help contain the disease.

Adjumani, 6th August 2014:- Uganda commemorated the World Hepatitis Day (WHD) with weeklong series of activities  under the theme “Hepatitis; Think again”. The national  commemoration was held at Mayors Garden in Adjumani district presided over by the Minister of Sate of Health (Primary Health Care) Hon Sarah Opendi Ocieng.
