Africa Builds Research Readiness for Future Filovirus Outbreaks

Over two hundred Scientists and Research and Development (R&D) focal points gathered in Uganda to tackle the pressing need to enhance research readiness for potential filovirus outbreaks across Africa. The workshop, which took place from 20th to 22nd February in Kampala, was jointly hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health Uganda.

Health Development Partners discuss annual health sector priorities in Uganda

Kampala, February 21, 2024 – Health Development Partners (HDPs) in Uganda have pledged to improve the harmonization and coordination of their efforts to effectively support the national health development plan and budget in 2024. This commitment was made at their recent HDP annual retreat held at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Uganda, which is the secretariat of the HDP Forum.

Uganda records significant reduction in new HIV infections among newborns

Kampala ‒ In Uganda, women are disproportionately affected by HIV. Out of 1.4 million people living with the disease, 860 000 are women and 80 000 are children.

As part of the drive to reduce the number of babies born with HIV, Uganda has a robust prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) programme. It involves following up women of reproductive age living with, or at risk of acquiring, HIV from their reproductive years, throughout pregnancy and to the end of the breastfeeding period.

Entebbe, 24th – 27th October 2023 - The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa (AFRO) in collaboration with the Secretariat of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) has completed a four-day Africa regional preparatory meeting for the 10th session of the Conference of Parties (COP 10) to the WHO FCTC and the 3rd meeting of the parties to the protocol to eliminate illicit trade in tobacco products (MOP3).
