Gambia | WHO Honours National Tobacco Control Champions

October 2016 - The two winners from the Gambia of the prestigious World No-Tobacco Award for 2016 - Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Hon. Omar Sey and the Multi-sectoral Working Group for Tobacco Control – were recently presented with their Awards at a colorful ceremony held at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare Headquarters in Banjul.

Gambia launches Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign

Banjul, 25 April 2016 - After intensive preparations, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW) in collaboration with WHO, UNICEF and other partners has officially launched the much awaited seven-day nationwide measles –rubella vaccination, which ends on Monday, 1st May 2016.

The campaign, which is integrated with vitamin A supplementation and de-worming, is the first of its kind conducted in the Gambia as echoed by WHO and MoHSW officials at a recent press briefing held be-fore the official launch.

The Gambia Commemorates World Tuberculosis Day 2017

The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office, the Medical Research Council (MRC) and other stakeholders observed the World Tuberculosis Day (WTBD) on the 24th March. The theme for this year is “Unite to End TB”.

The Gambia Introduces New Three-Year Tobacco Taxation Policy

BANJUL, 27 March 2017 : The Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs of the Government of the Republic of the Gambia has introduced a new three-year tobacco taxation policy, 2017-2019, following discussions with and capacity building from the World Health Organization (WHO).
