South Sudan develops the next Health Sector Strategic Plan 2023-2027

2 December 2022, Juba - Strategic and operational planning are important for translating the National Health Policy Vision and Goals into actionable interventions that contributes to transforming the health and wellbeing of the people of South Sudan in line with the National Development Strategy  and sustainable development goals.

To deliver health services across South Sudan, the Ministry of Health with support from WHO is developing the second Health Sector Strategic Plan (HSSP) 2023-2027 to implement the second phase of the National Health Policy 2016-2026.

Mr Daniel Deng Galuak, who worked for WHO as a field supervisor in the Polio programme, was shot dead by an unidentified attacker at a health facility in Bieh Internally Displaced Persons camp in the northern Bentiu city in Unity State, South Sudan.

The sad event occurred on 19 September 2022 during a supportive supervision visit to the health facility where he intended to monitor an immunization session and go through health records for possible cases of polio and measles that needed to be investigated and reported to the next level.

WHO field officer killed in South Sudan

Juba, 21 September 2022 – World Health Organization (WHO) expresses its profound shock and sadness at the killing of its polio field surveillance officer in Bentiu city in South Sudan and condemns the violent death.

Daniel Deng Galuak was shot dead by an unidentified attacker at a health facility in Bieh Internally Displaced Persons camp in the northern Bentiu city in Unity State on 19 September 2022. The motive behind the attack is yet to be established.

South Sudan launched Pharmacy Policy and Strategy

South Sudan launched the Pharmaceutical Policy and Strategy.

The 2022 Pharmaceutical Policy and Strategy provides an overall framework for governance, regulation and programming within the health sector which has been lacking since 2006.

A reactive measles campaign is underway in Juba, South Sudan

A reactive measles vaccination campaign targeting 37 390 children aged between 6 months to 14 years is underway this week in Juba County.

The campaign that started on 5 September 2022 is being implemented by the Ministry of Health with support from WHO and partners in Kator, Rajaf payams and two IDP sites in Juba.

Fight against COVID-19 in South Sudan

The COVID-19 pandemic remains a public health concern affecting millions of families including the most vulnerable population.

The World Health Organization (WHO) with funding from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) is supporting the Ministry of Health, Republic of South Sudan in fighting the spread of COVID-19 in order to minimize infection and protect the communities.
