Juba - Today, Hon. Adut Salva Kiir, Senior Presidential Envoy on Special Programmes in South Sudan, alongside the Minister of Health, Hon. Luke Thompson Thoan and the WHO Representative for South Sudan, Dr Humphrey Karamagi, visited the National Public Health Institute (NPHI), and the Infectious Disease Unit (IDU) in Juba to strengthen emergency preparedness and response capacity in the context of the ongoing Bundibugyo Ebola Virus Disease (BVD) outbreak in the region.

In the early morning hours of Thursday, 28-year-old Maria Nyal, a resident of Malakal Centre Payam, walked into Malakal Teaching Hospital seeking medical care. Upon arrival, she was directed to see a doctor for consultation. After examination and laboratory tests, Nyal was diagnosed with malaria. However, when she returned to collect her prescribed medication, she was informed that the hospital pharmacy had run out of medicines. 

“This came as a shock to me because I could not afford to buy the medicine,” she narrated.

Upper Nile State – The Ministry of Health, together with WHO and partners, has officially launched the Minister’s Special Initiative on Maternal and Newborn Health in Maiwut, aimed at ensuring that mothers and newborns in hard-to-reach areas have access to basic emergency obstetric and newborn care services comparable to those available elsewhere in the country.

Juba, South Sudan — Every unit of blood carries a story, from the donor who gives, to the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) teams who collect and process it, to the clinicians who use it, and the patient whose life depends on it. For many in South Sudan, that story ends in survival, a mother after childbirth, a child with severe anaemia, or a patient in critical care.

South Sudan today held its first-ever national celebration of International Labour Day, bringing together government leaders, workers, trade unions, and partners at Juba National Stadium.

Sarah Cleto Rial, together with the Undersecretary, Directors General, Chairpersons of the Parliamentary Health Committees from the National Legislative Assembly and Council of States, and the World Health Organization (WHO) Representative in South Sudan, Dr. Humphrey Karamagi, wrapped up a two-day high-level field visit to Rumbek Centre in Lakes State and Gogrial West County in Warrap State from 11- 13 March 2026.

H.E. Josephine Lagu Yanga, Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chair of the Service Cluster, has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening cancer prevention and overall health systems during a courtesy visit by the World Health Organization (WHO) Representative in Juba.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) - Republic of South Sudan and the World Health Organization (WHO) have signed a landmark land agreement paving the way for the construction of a permanent WHO country office in Juba, signaling a strengthened and long-term partnership to advance healthcare delivery across South Sudan.

Juba- When severe flooding submerged large parts of Fangak County in Jonglei State, entire communities were cut off from basic services. Roads disappeared under water. Health facilities were damaged or became inaccessible. Families were stranded without transport. For many, even a minor illness could turn life-threatening.

For 33-year-old Mary from Pajiok village in Patia Payam, Fangak County, 23 September will forever remain etched in her memory, a day marked by panic andpain. Her three-month-old baby boy had accidentally fallen into a basin of hot water at home.

Juba—South Sudan’s sustained cholera outbreak response has reduced new cases and prevented around 94 000 deaths since the confirmation of the outbreak more than two years ago in September 2024.
