WHO supports countries to build comprehensive and efficient systems and capacities to generate and utilize health data to monitor health risks and determinants, evaluate health system performance and functionality, identify morbidity and mortality patterns, and assess health status and inequalities.

In the WHO African Region, national health information systems lack sufficient and sustainable capacity to produce timely, high-quality, disaggregated data for decision-making. Data fragmentation across multiple data systems, lack of interoperability and lack of data governance have been identified as a major cause of data underutilization.

To address these challenges, WHO in the African Region is developing a Regional Data Hub (RDHUB) with a vision to promote evidence-based decision-making towards health outcomes.
