WHO Regional Director Pays Courtesy Visit To Uganda Prime Minister And The UN Country Team

Kampala, 19 January 2016 -- The World Health Organization Regional Director for Africa Dr. Matshidisho Moeti paid a courtesy call on the Rt Honorable Prime Minister of Uganda, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda at his office in Kampala. 
 
Dr. Moeti had come to Uganda to attend and preside over the Joint Action Forum (JAF) for the African Program on Onchocerciasis Control in Africa (APOC).
 
The Rt Hon Prime Minister Dr. Rugunda congratulated the Regional Director for her successful election as the Regional Director for WHO in Africa. He further said that, as a former Deputy Regional Director for the WHO Regional Office for Africa, her election as full director came in handy for Africa, based on the vast experience she has.
 
In her remarks, Dr Moeti appreciated the great strides that Uganda has made in ensuring Universal Health Coverage for all. She also pledged unreserved support of WHO to the Government of Uganda in ensuring the attainment of Sustainable Developmental Goals especially focusing on those that are Health biased.
 
Lastly the Rt Hon Prime Minister extended an invitation to Dr. Moeti to return and visit Uganda in the not so far distant future.
 
Dr. Moeti also had a working lunch with the United Nations Country Team and discussed different issues pertaining the work of the UN in Uganda. She expressed her gratitude to the UN family in Uganda for working together. She further said that the UN family would support government better when working together and encouraged her colleagues to maintain the good working relationships.
