Primary Health Care

Primary Health Care

The decentralization of health services and programmes to district level has been actively supported by WHO. This has involved capacity building at district and community level, monitoring and evaluation programmes and provision of health learning materials to districts.

WHO is supporting government to reactivate the implementation of the Primary Health Care (PHC) strategy. Presently, government policy is to re-orient health services towards PHC. Because of this, workshops have been held at various levels of government to sensitize officials, health workers, political leaders and community leaders about PHC. In addition, medical training curricula have been re-oriented towards PHC.

Future

  1. Strengthening partnerships for better coordination and synergy
  2. Scaling up priority programmes for better health outcomes
  3. Health systems strengthening
  4. Strengthening information for health planning and management
