Dar es Salaam, 27 April 2018: A four-day face to face workshop to provide strategic direction, capacity building and strengthening of the International Health Regulations (IHR, 2005) National Focal Points (IHR, NFPs) in the World Health Organisation, African region took place last week in Dar Es Salaam.

Dar es Salaam, 9-13 April 2018: Theory of Change is an ongoing process of reflection to explore why change is needed and how it happens. It is a broad vision of what results would be achieved and how they will be achieved. ToC aligns well with the on-going organizational transformation in WHO –which focuses on delivery of results with clearer links to better health outcomes. WHO Transformation effort aims to change the way we work together globally so that WHO is better aligned to serve people and communities around the world.

The "theory of change" workshop, was held from 2 to 5 April 2018 at Hotel Asmara Palace to all 23 WHO staff in Eritrea, facilitated by Mr Semere Gebregiorgis (HSS focal point). The workshop aimed to strengthen knowledge and capacities for the application of results-based management (RBM) in general and theory of change (ToC) in particular.

Juba 27 April, 2018: The Republic of South Sudan hosted a joint cross-border multi-sectoral disease surveillance meeting in Nimule, South Sudan from 24-26 April, 2018. Experts drawn from human, animal, environmental health and immigration sectors of South Sudan, Uganda, and Kenya deliberated on mechanisms to strengthen implementation of cross boarder disease surveillance and outbreak response in the region.  

FREETOWN, April 29, 2018 --- This year’s African Vaccination Week, on the theme ‘Vaccines Work! Do Your Part!’ has been celebrated across Sierra Leone, including a major event to engage community and religious leaders, mothers and civil society organizations at the Satellite Hospital in Freetown. The event was coordinated by the Pikin to Pikin Movement and the Children’s Advocacy Forum with support from the NGO Focus 1000 and Niyel. 

Abuja, 27 April 2018 – A 3 year old boy in North Eastern Nigeria lay semi-conscious on a raffia mat. His parents grow concerned as his body is very stiff, he’s sweating profusely and his body temperature is extremely hot. In absolute panic, his father rushes him to a healthcare center and begs the doctor on duty to examine the child.

The Kingdom of Swaziland joined the rest of the world in commemorating the World Health Day under the theme “Universal health coverage (UHC): everyone, everywhere”.   This year’s celebrations marked the 70th birthday of the World Health Organization (WHO) as well the 40th anniversary of the Alma Ata Declaration of 1978 which called for health for all by the year 2000.
