Ebola treatments approved for compassionate use in current outbreak
On 4 June, an ethics committee in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) approved the use of five investigational therapeutics to treat Ebola, under the framework of compassionate use/expanded access. This is the first time such treatments are available in the midst of an Ebola outbreak.

Juba, 6 June 2018 – The World Health Organization (WHO) in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), eHealth Africa and Novel-T has rolled out a mobile application based surveillance system called Auto- Visual AFP Detection and Reporting (AVADAR) for timely reporting and investigation of AFP cases and improve the sensitivity of AFP surveillance in South Sudan.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Uganda convened a prioritization meeting with the Ministry of Health (MoH) Top Management Committee (TMC) to discuss the alignment of WHO's 13th General Program of Work (GPW) with Uganda's Health Sector Development Plan (HSDP) and other health priorities.  In this special seating, the GPW prioritization agenda was incorporated as part of the special session of the TMC monthly meeting.

6 June 2018. Today Zimbabwe became the 17th country in the WHO AFRO Region which have completed their Health Financing Strategies; when they launched the Zimbabwe Health Financing Policy and Strategy. The launch, which was held at Murewa District Hospital in Mashonaland East Province, brought together different players in the health sector including senior Government officials, parliamentarians, civil society organizations, health development partners and donors as well as members of the local communities in Murewa District.

New pictorial health warnings for Mauritius unveiled during the launching of activities held in the context of the World No-Tobacco Day 2018
The new set of pictorial health warnings for cigarette packages that would soon be implemented in Mauritius was unveiled by the Honorable Health Minister, Dr Anwar Husnoo during the launching of activities at the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) on Thursday 31 May 2018 in the context of the World No-Tobacco Day.  This year the health authorities collaborated with the MBC to mark this event.  The media as highlighted by different speakers is one of the important stakeholders in the fight against tobacco, especially with regards to sensitizing the population on the dangers of tobacco smoke.  The link between ‘Tobacco and Heart Diseases, theme chosen by the World Health Organization, was strongly emphasized during the launching ceremony.
