Update COVID-19 05 May 2020

05 May 2020 — No new CoVID_19 case was identified out of 896 samples tested today. The cumulative number of confirmed cases remains two hundred and sixty-one (261). To date, a hundred and twenty-nine (129) patients have recovered and been discharged, including one (1) in the past 24 hrs. The number of active cases remains a hundred and thirty-two (132).


 All active cases are in isolation in stable condition.

 
The Government of Rwanda decided a progressive lift of lockdown starting 04/05/2020.

Update COVID-19 10 May 2020

10 May 2020 — Four (4) new CoVID_19 cases were identified out of 1040 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to two hundred and eighty-four (284). To date, a hundred and forty (140) patients have recovered and been discharged. The number of active cases is a hundred and forty-four (144).


 All active cases are in isolation in stable condition.  

Update COVID-19 15 May 2020

15 May 2020 — No new CoVID_19 case was identified out of 1058 samples tested today. The cumulative number of confirmed cases remains at two hundred and eighty-seven (287). To date, a hundred and seventy-seven (177) patients have recovered and been discharged, including nine (9) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is a hundred and ten (110).


 All active cases are in isolation in stable condition.  

Update COVID-19 20 May 2020

20 May 2020 — Six (6) new CoVID_19 cases were identified out of 982 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to three hundred and fourteen (314). To date, two hundred and sixteen (216) patients have recovered and been discharged, including seven (7) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is ninety-eight (98).


 All active cases are in isolation in stable condition.  

Denmark Supports Uganda’s COVID-19 Response with Two Million Dollars

Kampala, 19 May 2020: - The Government of Denmark has signed a grant worth Two (2) Million Dollars to support the COVID-19 response in Uganda. The grant is to be channelled through the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and will go towards the procurement of lifesaving commodities such as masks and Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) for health workers. The grant will also support the improvement of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services in selected districts.

Ghana Foods and Drugs Authority (FDA) attains maturity level 3 regulatory status

The Acting Country Representative for WHO in Ghana, Dr. Neema Kimambo has congratulated the Government of Ghana for this achievement and challenged the Foods and Drugs Authority work hard to sustain the gains and to reach the ultimate; which is Maturity Level 4. She said, Ghana has strengthened its medicines regulatory system to ensure safety, quality and effectiveness of medical products manufactured, imported or distributed within the country.

Improving access to COVID-19 treatment in South Sudan

Juba, 16 May 2020 – To provide supportive treatment for severe and critical COVID-19 patients, the World Health Organization (WHO), working with the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Medical Corps (IMC) has supported the Ministry of Health to upgrade and equip the Dr John Garang Infectious Diseases Unit (IDU).

Reducing preventable maternal and child deaths in Lakes State of South Sudan

On a cold Tuesday night, at about 12:00 am, in Malek village, Ms Rebecca Akeer, 26 years old gave birth to a bouncing baby boy in her house in the absence of a skilled birth attendant in February 2020. Malek is located about 41 km north from Rumbek, the state capital in Lakes State.

It happened hours after a nearby Malek Primary Health Care Unit (PHCU) was closed following inter-communal fight which left medical supplies destroyed and health workers were forced to leave their homes due to ensuing conflict.

I beat COVID-19, you too can-says WHO staff 

Bauchi 15 May, 2020 - On 19 April 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) in Nigeria confirmed the first case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as one staff member in the field tested positive. The Organization immediately swung into action, by deploying the needed support to ensure that the staff member received appropriate medical care.  The staff, Dr Haruna Ismaila Adamu who tested positive to covid-19 has finally been discharged from the case management center after spending three weeks of treatment at the isolation and case management center in Bauchi.
