Zambia has reached a significant milestone in its efforts to strengthen health systems and improve service delivery by ensuring health facilities have access to sustainable electricity. Launched in February 2024, the Health Facility Solar Electrification (HFSE) Project aims to provide reliable and renewable energy to health facilities, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas. Electricity is essential for critical services such as vaccine storage, maternal care, and emergency response.

WHO in Africa launches geodatabase to empower data-driven health decisions

Brazzaville — To mark Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Day on 19 November, World Health Organization (WHO) in the African region launched the AFRO Geodatabase (AFRO GDB) to enhance the use of trusted administrative boundary data to strengthen geospatial governance and empower data-driven health decisions across Africa. 

Liberia conducts the 2025 IHR State Party Annual Self-Assessment with WHO Support

Monrovia, Liberia — The Government of Liberia, with technical and financial support from World Health Organization (WHO), completed the 2025 State Party Annual Self-Assessment Reporting (SPAR) as required by the International Health Regulations (IHR) between 12-14 November 2025. The initiative underscores Liberia’s continued commitment to strengthening national and global health security through systematic evaluation and improvement of public health capacities.
