Africa COVID-19 cases top 100 000

The COVID-19 pandemic today reached a milestone in Africa, with more than 100 000 confirmed cases. The virus has now spread to every country in the continent since the first case was confirmed in the region 14 weeks ago.

Update COVID-19 21 May 2020

21 May 2020 — Six (6) new CoVID_19 cases were identified out of 1083 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to three hundred and twenty (320). To date, two hundred and seventeen (217) patients have recovered and been discharged, including one (1) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is a hundred and three (103).


 All active cases are in isolation in stable condition.  

Enhancing the provision of COVID-19 treatment in South Sudan

Over 100 health workers have been trained in the last three weeks with the aim to rapidly increase trained healthcare workers in response to COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

With support from World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners the Ministry of Health has trained health workers on COVID-19 case management and infection prevention and control (IPC). Participants are equipped with knowledge and skills on patient screening, isolation, contact tracing, use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and waste management.

Update COVID-19 01 May 2020

01 May 2020 — Six (6) new CoVID_19 cases were identified out of 1365 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to two hundred and forty-nine (249). To date, a hundred and nine (109) patients have recovered and been discharged, including five (5) in the past 24 hrs. The number of active cases is a hundred and forty (140).


This increase of new confirmed cases reflects a rise in cases of cross-border truck drivers and their assistants. All active cases are in isolation in stable condition.  

Update COVID-19 06 May 2020

06 May 2020 — Seven (7) new CoVID_19 cases were identified out of 1323 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to two hundred and sixty-eight (268). To date, a hundred and thirty (130) patients have recovered and been discharged, including four (1) in the past 24 hrs. The number of active cases remains a hundred and thirty-eight (138).


 All active cases are in isolation in stable condition.  

Update COVID-19 11 May 2020

11 May 2020 — One (1) new CoVID_19 cases was identified out of 380 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to two hundred and eighty-four (285). To date, a hundred and fifty (150) patients have recovered and been discharged, including ten (10) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is a hundred and thirty-five (135).


 All active cases are in isolation in stable condition.  

Update COVID-19 16 May 2020

16 May 2020 — Two (2) new CoVID_19 cases were identified out of 2041 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to two hundred and eighty-nine (289). To date, a hundred and seventy-eight (178) patients have recovered and been discharged, including one (1) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is a hundred and eleven (111).


 All active cases are in isolation in stable condition.  

Update COVID-19 29 April 2020

29 April 2020 — Thirteen (13) new CoVID_19 cases were identified out of 1705 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to two hundred and twenty-five (225). To date, ninety-eight (98) patients have recovered and been discharged, including three (3) in the past 24 hrs. The number of active cases is a hundred and twenty-seven (127).

04 May 2020 — Two (2) new CoVID_19 cases were identified out of 746 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to two hundred and sixty-one (261). To date, a hundred and twenty-eight (128) patients have recovered and been discharged, including four (4) in the past 24 hrs. The number of active cases remains a hundred and thirty-three (133).


 All active cases are in isolation in stable condition.
