Update COVID-19 05 April 2020

05 April 2020 — Two (2) new CoVID_19 cases were identified today, bringing the total to a hundred and four confirmed cases(104), of whom four (4) have recovered and been discharged.
•    Two (2) contacts of previously confirmed positive cases, who were identified through tracing.  


All new cases have been isolated and the tracing is ongoing. All patients are under treatment in stable condition in designated health facilities. The majority are asymptomatic, and no patient is in critical condition. 

Update COVID-19 04 April 2020

04 April 2020 — Thirteen (13) new CoVID_19 cases were identified today, bringing the total to a hundred and two confirmed cases(102).
•    Two (2) travelers who arrived from Dubai
•    Two (2) travelers who arrived from Turkey
•    Nine (9) contacts of previously confirmed positive cases, who were identified through tracing.  

South Sudan confirms first case of COVID-19

Juba, 05 April 2020 - The Ministry of Health of South Sudan has reported the country’s first case of COVID-19. The patient, a 29-year old female returned from Netherlands on 28 February 2020 via Addis Ababa.  

The patient developed fever, cough, headache and shortness of breath and was identified by the authorities on 2 April 2020 that subsequently led to confirmation on 4 April 2020 by the National Public Health Laboratory in Juba.  

She has no history of underlying or pre-existing illness. She is in isolation and is in good health. 

Nigeria’s polio infrastructure bolster COVID-19 response

Lagos, 4 April, 2020 - When the Nigerian Government announced the first confirmed novel coronavirus (COVID-19) case in the country on the morning of February 27th, Dr Rosemary Onyibe was ready to report for duty.

Dr Onyibe, who has worked with the Polio Eradication Initiative for more than 10 years, is the South West Nigeria Zonal Coordinator of the World Health Organization (WHO) Polio eradication programme that also supported response to Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in 2014. 

Update COVID-19 03 April 2020

03 April 2020 — Five (5) new CoVID_19 cases were identified today, bringing the total to eighty-nine (89).
•    Five (5) contacts of previously confirmed positive cases, who were identified through tracing.  


All new cases have been isolated and the tracing is ongoing. All patients are under treatment in stable condition in designated health facilities. The majority are asymptomatic, and no patient is in critical condition. 

Tackling Malaria in the context of COVID-19 outbreak in Northeast Nigeria

“My fears were many when my five-year old child developed high fever in the early hours of this morning. The nearest health facility is kilometers away from my house. Besides, I have no money to provide food for my family talk more of medication, a situation  compounded by  restriction on movement as part of COVID-19 control measures”, says  Malama Aisha a 35 year old internally displaced person (IDP) in Maiduguri.

WHO concerned as COVID-19 cases accelerate in Africa

With more than 6000 COVID-19 cases reported in Africa, the virus is threatening fragile health systems on the continent. Infections are increasingly spreading not only between African countries but within different localities in the hardest-hit countries.

Update COVID-19 02 April 2020

02 April 2020 — Two (2) new COVID_19 cases were identified today, bringing the total to eighty-four (84).
•    Two (2) frequent travelers who had visited multiple countries 


All new cases have been isolated and the tracing of all contacts has been conducted for further management. All patients are under treatment in stable condition in designated health facilities. The majority are asymptomatic, and no patient is in critical condition. 

State of Public Emergency starts at midnight - a COVID-19 Response

Gaborone, Botswana - 02 April 2020: After recording 4 cases of COVID-19 including 1 (one) death, His Excellency the President Dr Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi declared a State of Public Emergency which curtails non-essential services and unnecessary movement. The State of Public Emergency starts at midnight on Thursday 2nd April 2020. His Excellency, the President, has also summoned an urgent sitting of parliament on COVID-19.

01 April 2020 — Seven (7) new CoVID_19 cases were identified today, bringing the total to eighty-two (82).
•    One (4) traveler who had arrived from Dubai
