Monrovia, June 6, 2015 -- During the Ebola outbreak in Liberia, about 400 health workers were infected with the virus and more than half died. Now in the post-Ebola environment, the health and safety of health workers is a top priority.

Juba, 5 June 2015: WHO has begun a series of Oral Cholera Vaccination (OCV) Campaigns in parts of South Sudan in concerted efforts to prevent a potential outbreak of the disease.

The campaigns, targeted for Bentiu and Juba 3 Protection of Civilians (PoC) sites in June 2015, aim to prevent more cases and will complement other measures already in place. This is crucial given the approach of the rainy season in the endemic country.

Lusaka, Zambia, June 4, 2015 – President Edgar Lungu of Zambia has paid tribute to the World Health Organization (WHO) for its continued role in the country’s health sector. Freetown, Sierra Leone – 4 June 2015: The World Health Organization’s new Representative in Sierra Leone, Dr Anders Nordström, today 4 June 2015 presented his credentials to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in Freetown.

FREETOWN, 5 June 2015 – The year-long Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone has had a negative impact on basic health services, especially maternal and child health, with opportunistic childhood diseases such as measles and polio continuing to challenge an already overstretched system.
So, while continuing to support the push to zero new Ebola cases, the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, in collaboration with UNICEF, WHO and other development partners, continues to work to restore basic health services – one of the Government’s priorities in the early recovery from the health emergency.

Karago, 4 June 2015 – Tanzania’s large-scale cholera outbreak is not solely confined to the thousands of Burundian refugees who fled insecurity at home. Local Tanzanians have also been infected with the water-borne disease, prompting scaled-up surveillance efforts by the World Health Organization (WHO) and health authorities to trace and stamp out any new cases.

Lusaka, 04 June 2015 - The WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Matshidiso Moeti has applauded the Zambian government for progress made in reducing deaths and illnesses amongst women and children under five years old.

Kampala 3rd June 2015:- The World Health Organization (WHO) donated equipment to National Drug Authority (NDA) to be used for post-shipment testing of the 13 priority Life Saving Commodities (LSC) as described by the United Nations Commission Life Saving Commodities. The commodities include injections, medicines, female condoms, contraceptives and an electric suction pump and are intended to boost NDA’s capacity to test LSC, medicines and health commodities.

Lusaka, 3 June 2015 - The WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Matshidiso Moeti will pay a three day official visit to Zambia from 3 to 5 June 2015 at the invitation of the Zambian government. During her visit, she will pay a courtesy call on the President of Zambia, Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
