NEW YORK/GENEVA/BRAZZAVILLE (06 July, 2015) — In the lead-up to a major fundraising conference for Ebola recovery, the World Health Organization (WHO) called the rebuilding of the national health systems in West Africa a critical priority. While the countries are still working to get to zero Ebola cases, staying at zero is inconceivable unless rebuilding of the health systems begins now.
No Child Left Behind – Task Force on Immunization Urges the African Region to Strengthen Routine Immunization Systems
ADDIS ABABA | 3 June - The Task Force on Immunization (TFI) met in Ethiopia from 30 June to 1 July to review the progress made in improving immunization in the African region and to strategize for the future. The TFI is the principal technical advisory group to the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for Africa (WHO AFRO) on overall regional policies and strategies related to vaccines and immunization.
The two day meeting was attended by several Global EPI partners and the Federal Ministry of Health of Ethiopia.

Delegates agree on concrete actions to tackle health problems of Small Island Developing States in Africa
Mauritius 26 June 2015 – The fifth meeting of Ministers of Health of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the WHO African Region ended with delegates agreeing on a range of concrete actions to tackle their common health problems.
At the end of the three-day meeting, delegates agreed to among other actions; establish a national NCD commission to coordinate the national response across all sectors and guarantee that the specificities of SIDS are taken into the SDG.

Cholera Outbreak Declared in Juba County of South Sudan
Juba, 23 June 2015: The Minister of Health in the Republic of South Sudan, Dr. Riek Gai Kok has declared an outbreak of cholera in Juba County, South Sudan.
Addressing a press conference in Juba, where he made the declaration, Dr. Kok said on 1 June 2015, a cholera case was confirmed in UN House Protection of Civilians (PoC) site after Vibrio cholerae inaba was isolated from a stool sample. This was followed by subsequent cases.
