COVID_19 Update Rwanda

30 September 2020 — Four (4) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 2807 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to four thousand, eight hundred, and forty (4840). To date, three thousand, one hundred, and fifty-four (3154) patients have recovered and been discharged, including twenty-nine (29) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, six hundred, and fifty-seven (1657) and twenty-nine (29) deaths.

A series of activities was launched at the Cardiac Centre, Pamplemousses on 29 September 2020 to mark the World Heart Day in Mauritius. Eminent personalities attended the event including , Dr Kailash Kumar Jagutpal, Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Sudesh Kumar Kallichurn, Minister of Labour, Human Resource Development and Training, Dr Laurent Musango, WHO Representative in Mauritius, Dr Sunil Gunness, Cardiologist and Head of the Cardiac Centre, Dr S. Ramen, Director General Health Services, Directors of the five regional hospitals and high officials of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, among others. Dr K. k. Jagutpal, during his speech, highlighted the increasing number of people suffering from heart diseases with the ageing of the population and the NCD epidemic faced by the country since the past decades. According to the Health Minister, “more than 3000 deaths were due to heart diseases in 2019 while 19,500 patients were admitted in the different cardiology units of the regional hospitals for cardiac treatment. In addition, 4790 angiographies and 997 cardiac surgeries were conducted”.

Kampala, 30th September 2020:- The Minister of Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng has hailed the support of the donor partners and the United Nations Family towards Uganda’s efforts to contain the  COVID-19 pandemic. 

The Minister was receiving equipment worth USD 250,000 procured by the World Health Organization (WHO) with funding from the Irish Government.

This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to four thousand, eight hundred, and thirty-six (4836). To date, three thousand, one hundred, and twenty-five (3125) patients have recovered and been discharged, including eight (8) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, six hundred, and eighty-two (1682) and twenty-nine (29) deaths. 


The new cases are in Kigali (3), and Bugesera (1); heightened vigilance is required everywhere.

All my life as a woman, doctor, leader, mother and health worker, I have fought against gender inequality, as well as sexual harassment and abuse. When I became WHO Regional Director for Africa, I committed to advancing women’s careers and interests in the workplace and robustly addressing sexual harassment.

28 September 2020 — Twelve (12) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 1283 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to four thousand, eight hundred, and thirty-two (4832). To date, three thousand, one hundred, and seventeen (3117) patients have recovered and been discharged, including eighteen (18) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, six hundred, and eighty-six (1686) and twenty-nine (29) deaths. 


The new cases are in Kigali (9), and Kirehe (3); heightened vigilance is required everywhere.

27 September 2020 — Nine (9) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 2207 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to four thousand, eight hundred, and twenty (4820). To date, three thousand, and ninety-nine (3099) patients have recovered and been discharged, including eight (8) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, six hundred, and ninety-two (1692) and twenty-nine (29) deaths. 


The new cases are in Kigali (6), Nyamagabe (2), and Rubavu (1); heightened vigilance is required everywhere.

26 September 2020 — Thirteen (13) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 1894 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to four thousand, eight hundred, and eleven (4811). To date, three thousand, and ninety-one (3091) patients have recovered and been discharged, including eleven (11) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, six hundred, and ninety-one (1691) and twenty-nine (29) deaths. 


The new cases are in Kigali (13) testing in high risk groups; heightened vigilance is required everywhere.

COVID_19 Update Rwanda

25 September 2020 — Nine (9) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 1400 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to four thousand, seven hundred, and ninety-eight (4798). To date, three thousand, and eighty (3080) patients have recovered and been discharged, including thirty (30) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, six hundred, and eighty-nine (1689) and twenty-nine (29) deaths. The two new deaths are a woman and a man Rwandan respectively of 46 and 44 years old in Kigali.
