23 April 2021 — One hundred and ninety-seven (197) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 5420 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases twenty-four thousand, four hundred, and fifty-nine (24459). To date, twenty-two thousand, six hundred, and ninety-six (22696) patients have recovered, including forty-seven (47) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, four hundred, and thirty-five (1435) and three hundred and twenty-eight (328) deaths.

Abuja April 24, 2021- “I was not aware there was a way I could prevent malaria during pregnancy; I never heard of malaria preventive treatment and I had no mosquito net and unfortunately, I was not attending ante-natal clinic. Maybe if I did, I would have been able to save my baby,” narrates Shafa Magaji, a 24-year-old woman from Gwale Local Government Area (LGA) in Kano State.

Ministry of Health receives ICU Equipment to support critical case management of COVID-19

Ghana has made steady progress in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic since recording the first case.  Over 91, 000 cases have been confirmed with 754 deaths since March 2020, giving a case fatality rate of 0.83%. Effective critical case management of the disease among others could be described as a key contributing factor to this success. To sustain the momentum in the fight, the World Health Organization has presented ICU equipment to the Ministry of Health to support in this direction.

In the wake of a COVID-19 spike in new cases and deaths the Kenya government responded swiftly to increase measures that are aimed at taming rapid transmissions. In his 15th presidential address to the Nation on Corona Virus pandemic, H.E President Kenyatta issued a public order restricting movement in or out of the declared disease infected zone consisting of 5 counties. In this Zone, comprising of the five counties that are contiguous, the daily curfew was tightened among other measures on public gatherings, bars and restaurant operations.

22 April 2021 — One hundred and fifty (150) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 4327 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases twenty-four thousand, two hundred, and sixty-two (24262). To date, twenty-two thousand, six hundred, and forty-nine (22649) patients have recovered, including seventy (70) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, two hundred, and eighty-five (1285) and three hundred and twenty-eight (328) deaths.

21 April 2021 — One hundred and seven (107) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 4686 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases twenty-four thousand, one hundred, and twelve (24112). To date, twenty-two thousand, five hundred, and seventy-nine (22579) patients have recovered, including nineteen (19) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, two hundred, and six (1206) and three hundred and twenty-seven (327) deaths.

20 April 2021 — Seventy-one (71) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 4092 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases twenty-four thousand, and five (24005). To date, twenty-two thousand, five hundred, and sixty (22560) patients have recovered, including one hundred, and fifty-two (152) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, one hundred, and eighteen (1118) and three hundred and twenty-seven (327) deaths. 

Frontline Health workers in Hoima District Hesitate about COVID-19 vaccination, then Embrace it after WHO Assurance

WHO Representative to Uganda gets COVID-19 vaccine jab. This was to build confidence in the vaccine in order for health workers and everyone eligible to get it.

Under normal circumstances, one would expect frontline health workers to be lining up in thousands to receive the much-anticipated lifesaving COVID-19 vaccine that does not only offer scientifically proven protection to them but also saves the lives of the eager patients.

The COVID-19 outbreak has ushered in some strange behaviours among some front-line health workers in Uganda among which is vaccine hesitancy. Who could have imagined that health workers would be hesitant about a vaccine whose benefits they know very well?
