WHO-GIZ Cooperation continues to enhance Sierra Leone’s capacity to fight COVID-19

Thursday 1 July 2021, Freetown: As Sierra Leone battles her third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) in Sierra Leone with funding from our partners – GIZ and the German Cooperation - have once again supported the Ministry of Health and Sanitation with a donation of essential laboratory supplies that will help the country to respond to the third wave. The supplies include 82,000 sample collection kits; 1,620 automated PCR Kits (GeneXpert); and 10,000 antigen-based rapid diagnostic test kits (Ag-RDTs), altogether valued at $195,284.

Kigali, 30 June 2021 - Since mid-June, Rwanda has been experiencing a spike in the number of new COVID-19 confirmed cases each day. To support the country in facing the new wave, UN Agencies under the One UN Rwanda commonly agreed to commit further human and financial resources to the country’s COVID-19 response.

28 - 30 June 2021, Morogoro: Several state and non-state actors met virtually and face-to-face this week for a needs assessment exercise for the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC). Aimed at assessing the implementation of the Treaty that the United Republic of Tanzania ratified in 2007, this exercise is jointly lead by the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (MoHCDGEC) of Tanzania, the Secretariat of the WHO FCTC, World Health Organization and the United Nations Development Program.

On the 24th June 2021, as part of World Health Organization Eritrea support to Ministry of Health for the continuity of essential health services on Maternal and Newborn health, WHO Eritrea delivered vital Infection prevention and Control (IPC) equipment, that will significantly contribute to the effectiveness of Infection prevention and Control Interventions in the Eritrean Maternity Waiting Homes that valued at 162,000.00 Nakfa.

Nairobi, 25 June 2021 – An urgent measles and rubella (MR) vaccination campaign was launched today in Kajiado County by the Government of Kenya, with support of World Health Organization, WHO, UNICEF, Gavi the Vaccine Alliance, and US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The campaign, which will be conducted from 26 June to 5 July, aims to vaccinate 3.9 million children aged 9 months to 5 years, in 22 counties across Kenya.
