The World Health Organization's most recent assessment of the coverage and functionality of the National Health Information Systems (NHIS) revealed that Angola should focus on improving the availability of information on key development indicators, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for health, birth registration, the causes of death with medical certificates reported by the main hospitals by main diagnostic category (ICD-10/11), among others.

South Africa is facing a significant health challenge as Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) are on the rise. In response, the National Department of Health (NDoH) launched a national campaign to raise awareness and promote prevention and control measures for NCDs. The first event was held in KwaZulu-Natal, focusing on one of the subdistrict of iLembe.

Dar es Salaam – The World Health Organization (WHO), the Government of Ireland and Switzerland have signed an agreement to undertake the Mid Term Review of the Health Sector Strategic Plan-V (HSSP V) to strengthen health systems in Tanzania.

Under the agreement the Governments of Ireland and Switzerland will jointly provide US $ 100,000 for this purpose. Additionally, WHO will provide both technical and additional financial support to the Government of Tanzania in undertaking the midterm review of HSSP-V.

Juba, 27 February 2024 – Today, South Sudan launched a nationwide polio campaign aiming at vaccinating 3.1 million children using the novel oral polio vaccine type 2.

The novel oral polio vaccine type 2 has been designed to provide safe and reliable protection against poliovirus and is genetically more stable than the previous oral polio vaccine types. This means that it has the potential to be a game-changer in preventing new outbreaks of type 2 circulating variant-polio viruses (cVDPV2).

Access to information is key to realizing the right to health for all.  Health inequities are endemic to every region of the world, with rates of disease significantly higher amongst the poorest and most excluded groups.
