The recent declaration of an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda has reinforced the need for countries across the African region to remain vigilant and prepared. Although Ghana has not recorded any case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), the country is taking proactive measures to strengthen its readiness to detect, respond to, and contain any potential threat.

Praia, Cabo Verde. As part of efforts to strengthen the partnership between the World Health Organization (WHO) and China, the WHO team in Cabo Verde paid a visit to the Chinese Ambassador in the country on 29 May to align new areas of cooperation in the health sector.

World Malaria Day is a powerful global moment to reflect on the progress, renew commitment, and accelerate action to end malaria - one of the most preventable yet deadly diseases. For Eswatini, it is also a moment to reaffirm a clear national ambition: to eliminate malaria by 2028. 

In the early morning hours of Thursday, 28-year-old Maria Nyal, a resident of Malakal Centre Payam, walked into Malakal Teaching Hospital seeking medical care. Upon arrival, she was directed to see a doctor for consultation. After examination and laboratory tests, Nyal was diagnosed with malaria. However, when she returned to collect her prescribed medication, she was informed that the hospital pharmacy had run out of medicines. 

“This came as a shock to me because I could not afford to buy the medicine,” she narrated.
